Background

Post by Remy »

Background Story
  • Where were you born & what follows from that?
    • Born and raised in Shreveport, LA. He is the only child of a military family based out of the nearby Barksdale Air Force Base (AFB).
    • Rebellious at heart, his youth was spent regularly resisting the disciplined regimen his father tried to impose. Sprinkle in his innate cleverness, and by the time he was 16, he had already established a juvenile criminal record for numerous petty crimes, disappointing his father and excluding him from a military trajectory that his father peddled upon him since he was a child.
  • Who are/were your parents & what follows from that?
    • Remington Kincaid was the only child of Noah (Father) and Nancy (Mother) Kincaid.
    • Noah Kincaid was an A-10 Thunderbolt II training instructor for the Air Force Reserve Command's 917th Wing. Like the infamous "Warthog" close-air-support fighter was renown for, Noah was stubborn, prickly, and a seriously challenging opponent to bring down.
    • Nancy Kincaid was a traditional 1950s-style military wife. Devoted in supporting her husband in his professional career, she was generally well-liked, but ultimately not impactful in the community. Noah's career advancement was regularly blunted by his unpolished demeanor and lack of political acumen.
  • Are your parents still alive & what follows from that?
    • Noah Kincaid perished in an unexpected training exercise accident on December 3rd, 1999. Nancy passed away from grief two months after.
    • Up until that fateful day, Remy had been an unfocused vagabond. Already 25 at the time, and long since kicked out of his parents house once he had reached legal adulthood (18), he had consistently relied on his wits to coast through uncounted menial jobs. Essentially dabbling in the many professions that the unseen masses trudge through for a lifetime.
    • The tragic loss of his parents forced him to re-evaluate his life. Soon after, he opened up his own private eye agency out of a ramshackle office in Shreveport.
  • What were you doing when the Wave hit & what follows from that?
    • Though the physical "Kincaid Detective Agency" office lent some authenticity to his adopted profession, he abandoned it two years later for cost-saving purposes. He found that the majority of his business was mobile and word-of-mouth was sufficient advertisement to keep him busy.
    • His average face/demeanor, natural intelligence and keen eye for details quickly grew his professional reputation as someone who could find dirt on anyone. And that if you expected your spouse was cheating on you, he was the guy to get you hard evidence of such infidelity.
    • When the Wave hit, he was on an assignment in New Orleans. The wife of a local politician suspected infidelity. Since she came from a prominent and wealthy family, she needed proof so that when she initiated divorce proceedings, she would be able to dominate the final settlement, keeping their country estate and the trappings that she had become accustomed to.
    • This particular case was not particularly difficult. He was able to document the affair on the third day of investigation. But this politician was not particularly careful in his dalliances and Remy always liked to pad both his billables and the pile of evidence that he ultimately presented to his client, so he stayed on the man, documenting three separate affairs atop the original one over the span of three weeks.
    • On Day 0, Remy is on the brink of wrapping up this investigation, planning on taking a little R&R before picking up the next case. He has not yet reached out to his client to arrange a document drop-off.
  • Why did you leave home & what follows from that?
    • Remy has been on his own for quite some time. Being a middle-aged man essentially living out of hotel/motel rooms and his "NordStream Electrical Services" labeled surveillance van, he no longer has a "home" in the traditional sense. He takes new clients over the phone, arranging visits with them in public spaces and lives a wealthy nomadic lifestyle.
  • What did you leave behind & what follows from that?
    • Remy is generally untethered. His morally ambiguous and Machiavellian nature will likely reveal a strong self-preservation streak over time. He is quite clever though and knows how to mask this selfishness, wrapping it in a faux blanket of moral righteousness.
    • He has long been a survivor and will continue to be driven to do so. Likely unwilling to sacrifice his personal well-being for others (but will have a clever refrain for why doing so is a horrible idea).
  • What do you want & what follows from that?
    • Continued life. Being a flesh-eating monster seems like an undesirable alternative. Hard pass.
  • Outlook on Earth's Future?
    • There's always opportunities if you have a keen enough eye and the ability to see the task through at the right moment. Not sure about everyone else, but the Earth definitely doesn't need a Remy-zombie in its future.
