James can feel consciousness returning to him, almost as if he were returning from an out of body experience. Slowly opening his eyes, he finds himself in a thankfully dimly lit room, as he's aware that if there were any more light, he would be having a splitting headache from it. For the first few minutes he can feel more than hear his heart pounding in his ears, not from heavy exertion or a high pulse rate, but from the dead silence of the room. The air going in and out of his nostrils sounded more like a freight train than any bodily sound should. The room almost seems like the perfect place to meditate or contemplate dreams, such as the most peculiar dream he was just having. In it, a tall robed figure wearing what looked like a mask looked like he was drawing the essence from a large group of people, not their life essence but like their soul or some other mystic quality to them, all the while touching a bedazzled miner that was slowly making a hole in the rock face in front of it. Most of the stone is brown/gray in color, with various darker, jet black bits. Standing next to the robed figure is a beauty unlike any other, even more beautiful than any angel James had ever seen or imagined. She was looking at some screen or another that was on the miner. Behind them, a dwarf runs up to them and the only word that can be made out is dragon. That was the last thing he could remember about his dream. When he finally checks himself over, he finds that nothing is out of place or different (that he can tell, anyway) about him or his gear, other than the fact that he has an extra credit chip that he doesn't recall having. If he contemplates things even further, he finds that he feels more skillful.

What do you do, James?

The room that James finds himself in is eight feet squared with a small, non-descript door opposite of where the bed is in the room, and he is all alone within it. The walls, ceiling, and floor are all made from some sort of slats that are roughly one foot deep, but there is nothing else on them, save a single light fixture in the center of the ceiling. When he scans radio frequencies, he hears nothing but static. It's so quite in the room that your cyber-ear is actually registering negative decibels.

Once James finally opens the door, he sees a back alleyway in what appears to be the Spokes district of MercTown. When he actually goes through the doorway, he has an almost out of body experience for a moment, almost feeling like the sensation one feels when an elevator goes up or down except this feeling he had was not in any direction he could describe. When he turns around, he's staring at graffitied wall with no door in sight.

James heads back to the building that G.I.R.L.S. was looking at as a potential base via a cab. As he gets in the cab, a vision tries to enter his mind unbidden, but he naturally resists it. As the sensation fades away, he looks up to see a figure across the street from him, staring at him, or at least in his general direction. The figure is wearing black MD ceramic demonic looking armor

The armored figure appears in the road and seems to look around for several moments before moving off. Getting a better look at the person (?) does nothing to reveal any pertinent information about them, even the armor looks like nothing you have ever seen or heard of. You follow them without being noticed (as far as you can tell) until they enter the Job Market Cafe when you finally lose sight of your target. Looking around the inside of the establishment, you are unable to re-acquire your quarry, but a waitress hands you a stein filled with an amber liquid, frothing at the top, and says "With compliments from the gentleman in the corner, who also asked to tell you that he sorry his more subtle means of communicating with you had failed earlier," nodding her head in the direction of an empty table where the figures appears out of thin air, their hands below the table as they reappear, before folding her hands on the table in front of them.

James observes his quarry and is unable to tell if he has any concealed items on him due to the dim lighting in the cafe and the fact that the table hides his lower half. But while he knows whoever this guy is is not an undercover agent, but probably someone who could be one if the circumstances required it. There are subtle hints, as well as a feeling that you have in the back of your mind from somewhere, that this guy is not native of North America. Because of the layout and crowded nature of the cafe, you feel certain that there is no ambush laying in wait for you here. While you take all this information in, all you are able to get on the radio is static. When you approach and sit down, he replies to you with "I'm impressed. There are not many who force me to resort to my magical ability to vanish from sight to get rid of a tail. But that is not what I wanted to talk to you about. It is actually about your employer, the mercenary group known as G.I.R.L.S.? I have knowledge of their location and have been instructed to transport you there, should you be inclined to do so."
