“It was nearly 0200 hours when he came through Sir ...” the young CAF medic looked up at his Wolfen Commander, “Through one of the gates to the Plain of Mist … He was missing his right leg from mid-thigh down, and eye, and 2 fingers and using that staff-thing as a crutch... The Prometheans, they brought vids of it … ”

Colonel Harael nodded as he watched the view-screens along with the human, “Yes yes I know I’ve seen them, pops out of existence as the gate-team approaches to ID him, re-appears less than 10 seconds later on the steps of the CAF Embassy before collapsing … Saw that on video too. Retinal scans of the remaining eye indicates him to be one Captain Teagan Holyr Egriegash of the CAF Discovery Corps, gone missing in action on a covert GSA Op, presumed dead for some 4 years now and posthumously awarded the Silver-Star of Valor ... That’s going to have to be revised … ”

The med-tech replies quietly, “His file indicates he’s one of the Manarr, Sir, not many of those left …”

“Fine then keep treating him, if he’s one of ours we’d best try to patch him up. When he wakes up, he’ll need to be isolated … ”

8 Months Ago – Center, Level 4, CCW Embassy – Med Ward
“So, what happened Captain?” asked the red-skinned Oni seated in the corner, “You were one of a 10-man team posing as mercenaries that was dispatched for your mission. It should have been a simple task to make the run to Ghostworld and ‘rescue’ a certain group of unfortunates that the Empire was using the Ghost Planet to eliminate.”

“Search me,” shrugged the Manarr from his seat in bed, “The psychic wasn’t psychic enough? … There was a leak, I doubt it was the Psychic … he became a fine red mist just a few seconds after the whole thing started. …

Slamming a palm onto the table beside him the Oni interrogator snarled, “After what started? … Passage for your team was booked on a re-vamped Kreeghor cruiser that some freebooter was using to make blockade runs and smuggle contraband into and out of the TGE. Several of those you were to rendezvous with were to provide information on a series of terrorist strikes that were being contemplated against the Consortium … ”

Captain Teagan cut in to retort from his bedside, “Reiterating crap from a briefing I got before I left isn’t going to actually help. It’s called interrupting. Correct me if I’m wrong here but aren’t you the one who wants to hear what happened? ...”

Receiving a chagrined nod from his questioner Teagan begins his narration, “The mission did begin well, Branko was good as his word and we departed Center for the Corkscrew Galaxy on a tight schedule. Landed with 4 days to spare, but the locals were pretty freaking restless. The TGE’s use of Ghostworld’s quirk … the vanishing every once in a while and cleansing itself of sentient life was an ideal way to lift folks from the empire with military knowledge who could not be more expediently executed due to political ties, even a couple of our own operatives. The problem was … landing 4 days before one of those clockwork pop-outs … the undesirables are getting pretty desperate to get the hell outta Dodge. We were supposed to secure two very specific prisoners who would literally be dropped on the planet’s surface the day before the event in order to minimize any possibility of their escape.”

“We were stationed about the landing zone, good cover, no real concerns … They were walking down the docking ramp to the surface, I looked over and made eye-contact with Squiggy … Lieutenant Felleman … I gave him the nod just as Rinask, our psychic’s, head opened up like a ripe diathyri-klahd. I figured there was no time gave scatter and reset orders and let the Squad do what they do best … I popped over and transported the two to the ships hold before popping back to pick up team members. When I popped back my squad was literally engaged in a battle with a Dragon. Teeth, horns, wings … the whole shebang … and lucky me I popped straight into its eyeline. I popped away and started taking distance sniper shots at it, changing my position regularly but he was popping around a bit too. At first I just thought my optics were malfunctioning … spent a few too many seconds on that thought because he popped up in front of me … no farther than you sit from me … struck me so hard I think I forgot my name. I think he was still taking shots though cuz he grabbed me by the throat and …. Well it all went white and the next thing I recall was wakening on the Plain of Mists. Nothing but my Scythe and sidearms … I never got back to Ghostworld. Don’t know what happened with the mission, although I’d imagine it was a success … I transported the key targets myself.”

“I didn’t know it was the Plane of Mist of course … no, that took some exploration. I’d never been there before. It took a good long-ass time to get back here, met a couple Riathenor and more than a few other hostiles along the way, lost my exosuit or rather it got trashed but all that's another story ... By the way, what is the CAF’s policy on reimbursement? ... and back-pay?”

The Oni took a long look at the one-eyed, one-legged man in the bed before him and nodded grimly, "We'll see."

More Recently
After encountering an old acquaintance, the blockade runner Capt. Branko, Holt signed onto an independent investigation into disappearances and attacks on a FWC. Holt & Co. uncovered a plot by highly advanced robots to infiltrate the FWC and CCW.

After acquiring the Merry Celestial, Holt , Jack (the 4-armed Battle-Borg), and a variety of misfits headed for Center and the employ of the CAF (delivering star fighters to a beseiged garrison).
Most recently Holt & Co headed out to a remote star system in search of a ship owned by one of Thraxus' companies. In the process of creating a diversion to allow others to see what kind of information on the Fram that the locals (the Nixie) had, Holt took on the form of a large Khreegor (via magic disguise), rampaged through the spacedock, and onto a another ship to draw the authorities. He was taken prisoner when he was knocked out by an unexpected burst of concussion, and stun weapons.
