Jacob was an A student all the way through High School, but he never went on to College. Going to College meant leaving the town. He couldn't leave now. He had a duty. Protecting the streets. Protecting the Innocent. But not everyone approved of him, though he doesn't hurt people in any way. The police don't like him because he lets the bad guy off with a warning. Every time he stopped someone from doing something, he never saw them again. Why? They stopped doing what Jake stopped them from doing. Jacob didn't start a hero straight from High School, though. No, he eased into it.

He was working on a car in his garage when he heard a gunshot. Jake looked across the street at the gas station and saw that it was being robbed by a single man. Seeing that the shot was up, he decided to get his armor on. This wasn't the first time something like this happened. First he stopped a murder, got shot himself that time and decided he needed some armor. That's where he was going now. Jake got suited and was heading out the back door, thinking people would find out who he was if he just left through the garage.

After walking through the front door of the gas station, the bell went off and the armed man aimed at Jake and told him to get on the ground. Jake just started walking toward the man. He said stop. Jake kept walking. The man fired. Jake was still walking. The man, surprised, emptied his clip on him. And Jake kept walking. Jake was now within arms reach of the man. Jake took the man's gun, easy enough because the man was in shock, and simply said "This is your warning, get out. Next time, I won't be as generous." The man just nodded and left. Jake never saw him again. After that, he walked home and started to work on the car again.

The next day, he read the paper. "The Ghost saves a clerk" was written across the top. He was the Ghost. "Call me what you want," he says to himself, "I just don't want people getting shot on my block."
