Premier Dispute Resolution Organization

Soniua is the wellspring of opportunity! If a deal is to be done, no doubt here is where it will happen. This district is a sprawl of conference centers, business offices, retail establishments, wholesalers, you name it! If it can be bought or sold, this is where to find it!

Premier's protection and arbitration services are dominant, but not exclusive to the Soniua Mercantile District, Oron Financial Sector, and Hykri Entertainment District. Premier's account managers pride themselves on their organization's focus on crime prevention, and the successes they've enjoyed as a result of this policy. Premier peace officers predominantly patrol on foot, are heavily protected and well-armed with both lethal and non-lethal weapons, and are backed up by rapid-response teams to apprehend and detain criminal suspects.

CJ walks into PDR [Premier Dispute Resolution] with the rest of the 1st SOG but stays back so Nova can handle negotiations ** Once done here ... I would like to hit a hotel and grab some funds to handle picking up clothes to better handle undercover ops and to handle outstanding favors ...** . He will take a seat that gives clear sightlines to the various exits (as best he can) and scans the area checking the Thermal, UV, and radio spectrums casually as he listens.

Rosseyn doesn't sense the detection and tracking devices that are monitoring him and the others as they enter, but he doesn't even need to rely on such. There is a sign which states clearly "These premises are constantly under surveillance." The lobby of PDR is clean, bright, and ultra-modern and minimalist in its decor. The lobby is quite busy. There's a dozen open-air cubicles occupied by what appear to be salesmen and their clients. Another dozen or so people are seated here and there throughout the lobby engaged in discussions with what also look to be salesmen. Both the clients and the salesmen are from a dizzying number of races, many of which no one in the group has ever even heard about, let alone seen personally. As they take this all in, a fellow with an avian head and very long, orange bill approaches Rosseyn. He's been heavily modified by cybernetics and bionics, and looks to be a soldier of some sort.
Image
In Pilian, he addresses Rosseyn. "Gentlemen, I'm just an arbiter keeping the peace like any other flatfoot in galactic history, but let me give you some advice before you speak with a negotiator: remember what you need and want, and buy only what you need and want. By the looks of you, you're clearly new here, so let me also add that you can save yourselves a lot of time during negotiations by looking through that pile of paper advertisements on that rack by the wall. PDR ensures that clients have ready access to all our competitors' sales literature as well as our own. They say it keeps down operating costs and minimizes buyer's remorse, but like I said, I'm just an arbiter. Have a good one." The fellow leaves the lobby and meets up with a handful of other armed people outside. They set off at a brisk pace.

As they're looking around to figure out who they should see next, a group of people stand up from a nearby sofa, shake hands, and depart from the company of a humanoid woman of unusual facial aesthetics, but who bears an otherwise normal--if rather attractive--physique. She locks eyes with Rosseyn, quickly takes in his company, and beckons him on with unmistakable hand gestures.
Image
As the group takes up position around her (seated or otherwise doesn't appear to matter to her) she welcomes them to Grymdin and the offices of PDR, then gets to the point. "So, how can Premiere help you today?"

What are your intentions?

Niall/Vanko enters with the group, and absorbs the arbiter's advice. We want to make sure we're not contracting with criminals, I suppose. Niall looks over at the stack of paper advertisements, to see if he recognizes any names or symbols, in relation to any known criminal activity.

If he notices any with criminal connections or history, he'll point them out to Nova. "Might want to avoid this one."

Whether he notices any or not, his xeno-paranoia begins to get the better of him, and he tries to make a mental catalogue of the races/species he's seeing for later research. He's specifically looking for client or slave races of the Atorians, but will take time to note any races that are particularly belligerent or warlike.

Cairo curiously looks over the Avian-Alien's obvious arms, and those of his companions for make/style. He then watches the bustle of PDR's sales/customer service center as he considers the Arbiter's piece of free advice for a few moments. Specifically he hopes to spot any Kassans, other races that look like they use eye-protection, and/or others who closely resemble the Arismal amongst the folks present (both customers, and staff).

Then he walks over to review the various pamphlets for services offered/pricing/etc. (OOC: are these outlined somewhere, or do we not need to worry about them? i.e. trying to figure out if we need to chase Augur to write these up :D ) The Pilot flips them open and begins reading while they wait in an effort to gauge the prices and how much of their overall budget this is going to dig in, **Unless we can find more cash for our coffers, every credit spent is taken off of the Fleet's collective plate ... Won't know until we start seeing some real prices. If we spot any other 'Kassans' might want to follow their lead on where to stay, if it won't break our bank.**

CJ takes in an eyeful of the Negotiator who has approached them, still holding the PDR brochure. He'll follow along with Nova to her Cube and take a seat if Nova does. The Pilot will remain quiet initially, waiting for his CO or Brainiac to lead off as he tries to decipher its content.

Halko/Toreen marches in with the rest of the squad and looks around the lobby of Premier Dispute Resolution. Its strange having the goggles tucked in my back pocket. These contacts are amazing though.

Halko tenses a little bit when the bird-man cyborg approaches Nova but when the being just offers some advice, Halko grins and nods. Glaring over at the fliers, Halko is trying to decide if he should go look for some he can actually read when the female PDR representative waves them over.

Standing a few steps back from Nova, Halko maintains the appearance of a bodyguard as he orbits a few feet away from his superior officer. As he stands there listening to the alien service rep, Halko thinks, Docking fees, private police contracts. Frak, just how much of our money is going to get drained off secondary services. I was thinking we'd be able to come in, find some bulk food merchants and get this done quick and easy. If things keep going the way they are, we're likely gonna have to take a merc job or two just to keep funds in the coffer. Of course, that's not very different from when we were on Kelpha Station and everyone needed a favor done in order to provide us with what we needed then.

Nova/Aldric nods his greeting to the duck-billed humanoid that approaches him. After the arbiter gives his advice, he says to him in Pilian "You have our thanks." When called over to the negotiator's table, Aldric brings Cairo/Noran with him, as he is clearly reading through the various manuals that he hasn't had a chance to view yet.

Conditions:
Time: Day 46; 0700 Local

Niall/Vanko
Niall/Vanko enters with the group, and looks over at the stack of paper advertisements to see if he recognizes any names or symbols, in relation to any known criminal activity, but he finds none. Then again, his point of reference was just shy of useless. Niall mentally notes the Elecian arbiter, and assumes the term to be a positional title of some sort given the context and the word's standard semantic use.

Cairo/Noran
Cairo spots no obvious Kassans, but does note that a fair number of uniformed individuals moving through the space wear either visors, helmets, or goggles of various sorts. Humanoid aliens appear to be a minority, but not an insignificant one.

He then walks over to review the various pamphlets in an effort to gauge prices.
  • Phili Property Protection (PPP) is more expensive by far than their competitors, but promotes and guarantees its amazing response time of under five minutes.
  • Soniua Security Services (SSS) has the lowest absolute rates of its competitors and advertises its low percentage of arbitration failures. A little reading of the fine print shows that this is because they engage in arbitration much less than either of their competitors.
  • Premiere Dispute Resolution Organization (Premiere DRO) focuses its advertising on its "reasonable rates," success rate in non-violent resolutions, and "unsurpassed customer satisfaction ratings."
Various sums are provided for varying levels of coverage and/or services from each firm. The degree of coverage highly correlates with price. A "basic" coverage plan costs the least, and only includes responding to service requests for arbitration and actual arbitration services. SSS provides this service plan for 500 credits/month, Premiere for 1000 credits/month, and PPP for 2000 credits/month. Everything scales up from there with various plans and options including everything from armed escort convoys, to active residence or commercial property protection, to personal bodyguards. Cairo follows Rosseyn's lead and joins him, Premiere pamphlet in hand, sitting across from the negotiator.

Halko/Toren
Halko maintains the appearance of a bodyguard as he orbits a few feet away from Rosseyn/Aldric. While he internally frets about the various drains on their resources, he keeps his senses open to his surroundings. Some of the conversations of which he's able to overhear snippets sound like police reports from both perspectives--complainant and policeman, other conversations are very much grounded in sales very much like what one would overhear from terrestrial telecomm company's sales reps, and still others are clearly investigatory in nature, though he would shy from calling them "interrogations" as they all seem quite civil and non-coercive.

Rosseyn/Aldric
Nova is direct with his response to the negotiator. "My crew and I would like to sign up for your services. We will be in the Soniua district, which I understand is one of your best areas. We will also be traveling through New Vesta and Novoo. What do your prices look like?"
Image
The negotiator smiles, showing a mouthful of even, white teeth like a military cemetery. She's absolutely lovely and Rosseyn is suddenly and keenly aware of her presence, her closed knees are just inches from his own. Her long jacket and short skirt are made of the same leather-like material, and are the same gold-accented dark green in color. Her hair is nearly the same color as her attire, but her skin is a smooth, light green and she sports a few delicate tattoos on her face and arms. "I take it that price is more of a sticking point than coverage then? Please, correct me if ever I draw an incorrect conclusion. Anyway, our prices are reasonable, but this all depends on a matrix of threat and risk assessment based on your profession, history, geography, and just which services for which you wish to contract Premiere." She breaks eye contact for a second and surveys the looks of Rosseyn's companions. "And, of course, whether you would be contracting for just yourself or a group--though I think you'll find our group rates just as reasonable." She pauses to let all of that sink in. "So, perhaps you could tell me a bit about yourself, and what you're looking for so that we can together come to a mutually beneficial arrangement that adequately suits your needs? Might as well invite your associates over as well--if as I'm assuming, you need group coverage--as their input will similarly be required."

GM Note: Go ahead and chime in everybody! Rosseyn will make the final decision, but your inputs will help determine the outcome.

Halko over hears this and glances at Nova. He doesn't take a seat but he begins to contributes to the discussion on the type of plan they will need. "As the boss said, we will be traveling to the Soniua, New Vesta and Novoo districts. Possible more while we try and line up some contracts for bulk food shipments. I guess we'll need your services to cover us while we are on station and to insure our contacts are carried out." His brows furrow as a thought crosses his mind, though no smile crosses his face, memories of his father dragging his to meetings similar to this start flowing up from the back of his mind. The endless back and forth dickering over minute points that would only make a difference when one party tried to screw the other party rather than hold up the faithful terms of service. Frak, this is why a signed up for service. I'm not build for this kinda crap. And its only gonna get worse when we actually get to the point of buying food.

Halko takes a deep breath and looks levelly at the negotiator, asking, "Will the term of our contract need to extend out past the length of our personal policies to cover the latest possible shipping date or can that be handled separately? As we will need to insure delivery."

Niall looks disappointedly at the rack of pamphlets. What, was I actually hoping I'd recognize some criminal organization? Most of the conversation between Nova and the arbiter is garbled, as Niall is paying more attention to the pamphlets, but Niall perks up his ears and struggles to listen more carefully after a moment.

Language: Pilian ☞ 80% 1d100 = 14 (SUCCEED)

He smirks and turns when the arbiter invites the rest of the crew over, and walks over to join them.

When she asks just which services we want to contract for, Niall perks up, asking in Pilian: "I'd like to know what the full range of services are, exactly. I'm assuming they begin with diplomatic mediation in the event of contract disputes, but how far do services range? And what guarantee is there on the services?"

Cairo listens thoughtfully as Halko chimes in, **Shipping? We're not letting them ship to us on this run. We're taking any immediately available foodstuffs we can land with us ... I guess strapped to our cargo hard-points on the Eclipse. The Fleet might allow for shipping out to that Asteroid base in the future. But if Jorel is with a Grymdin Syndicate, and he's with Vaxil, then flagging that as a drop point will be a problem ... but we need to gather intel, make contacts with the 'Leadership' of Grymdin we don't have names or people to make introductions. I want to get into the Soldier Services Directory Group, and FIN.**

With a yawn and stretch, CJ will interject a couple queries of his own, "What was your name Ms.? ... Thanks, the Assessor downstairs said that we need to have a dispute resolution service or else no one would Contract with us. When does an Arbitrator get called in? Because this seems pretty inefficient if we need to have one of your folks along to go get Hotel rooms, and shop around on Souk Street ... and some of us were hoping to y'know explore Hykri. See the sights, get some souvenirs, maybe meet some friendly locals."

She initially seems puzzled by Halko's inquiry. Either she wasn't sure what the answer was, or Halko somehow confused her. "I'm not exactly sure I understand the question asked, but perhaps I can make clear some matters. The vast majority of our work is conducted on Grymdin, and in the area of space within 100,000 miles. As to the duration of your contract, that is entirely at your discretion. So if you need your contract to coincide with the conclusion of a particular business arrangement, it would be wise to sync those two dates so that your coverage doesn't lapse. By the by, should you need to extend the length of your original contract, you can do so at any time by returning here and making arrangements with a negotiator like myself."
Niall wrote:"I'd like to know what the full range of services are, exactly. I'm assuming they begin with diplomatic mediation in the event of contract disputes, but how far do services range? And what guarantee is there on the services?"

Her face turns to take in the newcomer to the roundtable discussion. When she flashes her smile, Niall immediately recognizes her to be a woman of intense training and solid experience in interpersonal relations. (Great JIC) She answers him once he restates his question for clarity. "Premiere provides dispute resolution services for clients who have disagreements with contractors. So if someone contracts with you, but then doesn't satisfy the contract, we will handle the arbitration. First, we'll cover any of your losses, of course, and then we will assume ownership of the contract in question. This gives us...what is it the Swip say...'skin in the game,' and incentivizes us assertively pursue the fulfillment of that contract. Sometime, of course, contractors simply prove to be untrustworthy, and we take the loss. When that happens, we share this information with the other DROs, as well as with the financiers at Yokohama. Those who violate a contract get a reputation for such, and eventually no one--not even a DRO--will contract with them. Let us just say that the hard vacuum of space is often preferable to being the owner of a bad reputation here on Grymdin." She pushes back a sleeve and quickly types something into a digital vambrace on her left arm. "As to the range of the services themselves, we can provide escorts, bodyguards, and other kinds of direct security services if desired, and we do sometimes do this for clients who wish such, and I've already mentioned the bulk of our business--arbitration, and as for the rest, we respond to client service requests. The arbitrator that spoke to your group on his way out--he and hundreds of others like him give our clients the peace of mind of knowing that, should their persons or property be threatened, an arbitrator is just a few minutes distant. As to the guarantee, well, I've already explained how that would work in regards to a contract dispute, as to your personal security, our own reputation is your guarantee. Premiere is rated just like any other person or organization. If we don't deliver on our own end, you can always have a third party arbitrate that dispute against us. We do get a few such disputes each cycle--though we have less than our competitors--but it's usually in our best interests to just make the client happy, or to at least mollify him. We do not want to earn a bad reputation." A young felinoid female dressed in smart business attire of bright blue white white accents sets a tray on a nearby table. The tray is covered with glasses of ice water. "Please, help yourselves to refreshments. Negotiation can be thirsty work." She takes a tall glass and sips it.
Cairo wrote:"What was your name Ms.?

The woman smiles broadly and cups her glass of water in her free hand. "I am Premiere Negotiator Delani Oneste. To answer your question, arbitrators get called in when there is either a contract dispute, or when there is a direct security threat to our client of which the client has notified us. In either case, we respond as quickly as possible. When you're a Premiere client, all you need do is use our card to register your contract. Whether this is a dining experience at a local restaurant or a massive merger with another firm doesn't matter--Premiere will arbitrate any contract in which you choose to participate...with one exception: we will never contract with slavers, and should you choose to do so, we will terminate our affiliation with you immediately and share that information with the other DROs and financiers. Any other questions?"

Halko/Torren furrows his brows as the woman speaks, This is quickly going over my head. I should have paid more attention in those meetings dad forced me to go to. Who knew that it might come in handy. Especially now. "Thank you. I think I understand."

He turns to Nova, "Okay, If we're taking possession of all the good before we leave here, then our contract with PDR should only needs to be for whatever length of time we are on the station. But if we have a contract for delivery after we leave here, it would likely be good to have our contract extend out to the delivery date."

Halko looks off to the side as a thought tickles his head. He struggles to dig up the correct wording as he looks to the Negotiator, "Is there any way to get a PDR contract that covers a time frame that was prior to the contact? A huh.... retroactive policy? Just in case we lapse and are in need of arbitration?" He looks back at Nova and adds, "If there is, I'm guessing it costs a premium rate."

Halko glances around at the others to see if they have any follow up questions.

Niall nods thoughtfully at the comprehensive answer the Arbiter provides to his questions. So it sort of functions like insurance, but with a bodyguarding component if desired. I don't know that we'll need that, though, if we keep things calm and quiet. Also, not sure I'd want aliens tagging along behind us every step of the way.

Listening in to the conversation the others have concerning payment, and how the process goes. Her mind starts to extrapolate some potential scenarios that can go on. So, they secure that all transactions are above board. And if you don't bargain for their service, the other party can and probably will leave you high and dry. Interesting process they have here.

Jill then looks at the map of the station and services, looking for potential technical resellers, and junkyards. Anything that may have parts useful in repairing the shields of the Eclipse, or even enhance the flow capacitor. For the love of Volund, I do hope we can find parts for the ship.

Niall/Vanko
"Thank you - a very satisfying answer." He replies to the negotiator.

To Nova/Aldric, he adds "I'm not sure the degree to which we need any bodyguards. But insurance and arbitration sounds like a good deal."

Cairo/Noran
Perception: 23
"A pleasure Negotiator Oneste. So Aldric can correct me if I'm mistaken, but I think based on the brochure from the lobby we need a standard Group Policy for six. Our present schedule has us on Grymdin for 10 days this trip, so a 30-day initial policy is a good place to start? What's the price for that? We can always expand coverage if additional needs arise. Does PDR have a list of reputable establishments? Having businesses that have been vetted up front might save us all some frustration...like a list of hotels with solid security."

The negotiator pulls back her sleeve once more and begins inputting figures on the digital vambrace. "Your group is unknown, no established reputation or line of credit--that's always a costly risk factor, only a thirty-day term--that both decreases the base cost and raises the risk matrix, coverage for six to include standard arbitration and customer service only, minus the group rate discount..." she looks up and surveys the group's attire, shakes her head quickly, and returns her eyes to the vambrace. "Definitely not an institutional organization or registered corporation...yes, that sounds about right." She looks up to Rosseyn, "For your group's needs, and based on the scarcity of information about your group or its purpose here, the matrix assess your thirty-day arbitration contract at a value of thirty thousand credits. Before you say anything, I know that's a large sum, but you have to understand that without empirical data on file regarding your history of interactions, the risk is fairly high that you will actually have need of our services. Honestly, I expected a sum closer to a hundred thousand, but the matrix doesn't take into account intangibles like gut feelings, aesthetic signals, and the like."

Cairo's second question makes her nod empathetically. "I've been lobbying the firm to create just such a registry. Maybe with a Premiere logo that could be affixed to the business' entryways that signals their being preferred customers and a safe bet for our clients. Still, the firm hasn't approved of such yet, I'm sorry to say. I will tell you, however, that all of the Fashion Avenue retailers are extremely trustworthy and reliable, as are GT and Yokohama, and TGE--of course--is about as reliable as a fusion reactor; you might find that XS is not to your tastes, but the enterprise itself is extremely reliable in its interactions. I hope my local insight helps and is of value to you during your time here."

Halko/Toren
"Thank you. I think I understand." He replies to the negotiator.

He turns to Nova, "Okay, If we're taking possession of all the good before we leave here, then our contract with PDR should only needs to be for whatever length of time we are on the station, but if we have a contract for delivery after we leave here, it would likely be good to have our contract extend out to the delivery date."

He looks to the Negotiator, "Is there any way to get a PDR contract that covers a time frame that was prior to the contact? A huh.... retroactive policy? Just in case we lapse and are in need of arbitration?"

She smiles in response. "A contract that would cover your business dealings even if you're not Grymdin? Of course that's covered. The likely success of a venture does tend to fare better when there are watchful, interested eyes present, but many interactions have become rather routine on Grymdin, and business relations long-term and steady, so this becomes quite common in such long-run arrangements. Some enterprises actually come to trust one another so much that they entirely dispense with having arbitration services entirely; it does add an overhead cost, you know. But the answer is yes; just because you're not here doesn't mean that your contracts are invalid or not protected by our arbitration."

Gilina/Soria
Jill stays back and walks over to the literature and surveys the different services to be found on the station looking for potential technical re-sellers, and junkyards. Souq Street looks like it probably has a half-dozen or more such shops, Fashion Avenue likely has some as well--though likely nothing second-hand or inexpensive, Fresh Air Market might have something as well due to the sheer variety of vendors, and the TGE Emporium would have anything she might ever want. Whispering in Pilian to Ryden, she says "Do you think we can also purchase some tech and equipment?, I have some things I am working on that could use it."

Rosseyn/Aldric
Rosseyn sits mutely across from the negotiator, still apparently entranced by her good looks.

GM Note: Go ahead and chime in everybody! Rosseyn will make the final decision, but your inputs will help determine the outcome.

What are your intentions?

CJ quirks an eyebrow questioningly at Negotiator Oneste, **30,000 Credits? ... We can afford it sure, but it's a lot steeper than the Brochure suggested. 500 Credits for a Standard 30-Day Policy per person should only come to 3,000. Instead we get quoted 10 times that amount ... Sure hope Nova isn't blind enough to simply take whatever number she throws out there. Her title is Negotiator, it plainly suggests she has some kind of authority to move the damn number. Hopefully we can get out of here for 8,000 or 9,000.**

If Nova remains entranced the Pilot will stifle a yawn and stand up, "Well ok, thank you very much Oneste. Too bad about that directory, that would have made things easier. Aldric, You wanted to shop around anyways, maybe we go check Soniua Security Services after all."

Ryden walks in with the others, moving instinctively to the pamphlets. He picks them up and assuming there is some sort of visual shortcut (think QR code), he follows the link with his computer and reads up on the various services.

First he researches everything he can find on the ins and outs of arbitration, looks for negotiating tactics and points to ask about. Specifically he's looking for things to ask about negotiating a contract to retain an arbitration service.
Research 105%/1d100 = 61

While he's at it, he looks for signs of which companies are bigger and more direct rivals for Premier.
Intelligence 66%/1d100 = 25

He listens to the entire conversation. When Soria asks her question he nods and answers in the same tone of voice, "I'm sure. I wouldn't have it any other way." But his mind is in data collection mode. Between what he is reading, what he is hearing, and what he is thinking, he doesn't speak much. He steps close to Nova, behind him, and taps him on the shoulder once and very lightly, more to signal his presence than anything. His voice is even, calm and analytical. When Nova looks up, he inclines his head, as if asking for permission, and nodes to him before continuing. He then looks at the woman. "Ms. Oneste, I have a question. Would the price be more ... economical, shall we say, if it covered a slightly longer period of time. 30,000 I am sure is a wonderful and appropriate price for covering a fly by night operation only intent on being here a short time. I think I can confidently say that my comrades assumed the price would be lower for a shorter term. 30,000 seems more appropriate for a four to six month term than one month, but that could very well be my ignorance of the situation talking. How much would you charge for those longer terms?"

Brainiac gives the women a bored stare waiting for her response. Inside his mind is racing with the changing situation, evaluating probability as it flows. Maybe they could pull off the Kassan angle. Niall surprises him, pleasantly. He nods in agreement with Niall's statement.

Conditions:
Time: Day 46; 0735 Local

Cairo/Noran
"Well ok, thank you very much Oneste. Too bad about that directory, that would have made things easier. Aldric, You wanted to shop around anyways, maybe we go check Soniua Security Services after all."

Ryden/Samil

Rosseyn/Aldric
"Thirty thousand is definitely a lot given that your base price is listed here as one thousand per month. We may be unknowns, but that price hike is unreasonable. What can we do to lower it?"

Niall/Vanko
"You say we're unknown like that's a bad thing. In our line of work, if you've heard of something we did, then we did it wrong. 30,000 credits is a joke. I thought you were an experienced negotiator."

Rosseyn/Aldric
"Some of my friends here have less patience than myself. You are obviously a capable and intelligent person. I'm sure we can come to an agreement that works for both parties involved?"

Negotiator Oneste placidly sits with her hands in her lap listening to the alternately outraged and curious responses of the assembled men, responding to none of them as she lets them voice their opinions. When Rosseyn/Aldric broaches the possibility of some mutually beneficial arrangement, she finally speaks up. Her milk-smooth tenor is confident, unaggressive, and (Niall and Ryden can perceive) hiding some degree of mirth she feels at their varied responses. "Sir, for I don't even know your name yet, your gadget-laden friend here," she nods in Ryden/Samil's direction, "made an astute observation; the same one implied by the price." She does her best to imitate Ryden's tone of voice. "He said, 'Thirty thousand I am sure is a wonderful and appropriate price for covering a fly by night operation only intent on being here a short time.' This was, indeed, a wonderful insight. You see, Premiere has no way of knowing that this isn't just a bit of projection on his part. For what little we know of your group, this could even be a very generous description. You see in our line of work, information is value, ignorance is risk, and risk has a steep cost." She smiles and looks around to all those gathered. She returns her gaze to Rosseyn/Aldric. "You sagely asked what you could do to lower the cost. Those were the smartest words any of the lot of you have spoken so far. You could tell me who you are, for starters. But before you either begin pouring out your life stories or storming out angrily, let me provide you all with valuable information that you clearly lack: anonymity is valuable, to be sure, but it comes with a steep price as well. A solid reputation is worth more than a man's weight in francium, but it makes operating in the shadows incredibly difficult and risky." She stands up gracefully. "Choose which path you wish to tread wisely. Please confer with one another on the matter. I'll return in a few minutes." She departs into an adjoining hallway and around a corner.

What are your intentions?

As Oneste heads off into a hallway and leaves the group in the Lobby, CJ chuckles to himself, **'Anonymity has it's Price' she says ... 'please enjoy this complimentary wide-open-Lobby that is being monitored by cameras and recording equipment to conduct your discussion on anonymity' ... Seems pretty silly. That said she missed the name Aldric when I gave it, or she's unsure because Nova didn't respond when addressed by that name.** The Pilot glances around to the others, then taps into his computer to see what wireless connections are available from their current location, **We could disclose we're picking up some rations, that shouldn't be an issue. Don't know if we would want to advise that we want to say we are Data Couriers doing a delivery ... Maybe a couple of us should split off and check other prices.**

CJ rolls his shoulders and neck then offers, "You want to cut me a card with a chunk of funds? I'll walk over to Soniua Security Services and price check it."

Halko/Torren looked quizzically at Negotiator Oneste when she replied, Crap! Did I just hear her correctly? She wants us to strip down for examination? No, that can't be right. I must have missed some sort of syntax issue or something. Halko looks around at the others to see what they're doing after this new statement from the Negotiator. He starts to open his mouth and ask, in Arismal, what she said but he thinks better of it and clamps his mouth shut.

When no one starts stripping off their clothes or anything, Halko just gives Nova a nod, as if to say 'its your call' and steps back to take up a position at the outer edge of the group. Stop trying to be the statesman or business man Halko and do what you know. Watch for threats and intercede.

Niall smiles as she leaves. She's playing hardball, but she's shaken. She knows that was a crap offer, and got real defensive trying to justify it. Really, it's not ... THAT bad... if they can actually guarantee their services.

Language: Pilian Tongue (Liloqua) ☞ 80% 1d100 = 3 (SUCCESS)

With a large smile, he says "What happens when we have a contract dispute with our dispute resolution services provider?" He then chuckles.

At that moment, he remembers shopping for a hovercar with his father when he was 17. They'd looked at several models, and even though his father had cash in hand to pay the asking price, they sat down to negotiate. When Niall asked why, after the salesman had left to "confer with the boss" his father looked at him and said:

Dad wrote:"Son... no one pays sticker. Even if you can. Because the negotiation lets them know what kind of person they're dealing with. That you're not a pushover, someone they can cheat. If you pay the first offer, they'll walk all over you with shoddy service, hidden costs, substandard product, or whatever. So you whittle them down. You cut services or options you don't need, and you let them know, in the process, that you're not an idiot."

As he remembered this, he could almost feel his father's hand on his arm, smell his cologne, and the slight hint of wine on his breath.

He ended up crashing that hovercar, later, in what would be his parent's last straw against his carelessness - they'd signed him up with the ADF after that. That hovercar accident saved his life, he realized, and his arms prickled with gooseflesh.

He looks back at Nova, and nods, meaningfully, before turning back to peruse the rack of competitors' pamphlets - more to kill time than out of any genuine interest.

Halko gives his head a shake and looks between those in the group. He's still not comprehending exactly what they are saying. He must be getting some of the syntax wrong or something. Rather than revert to Arismal and give away who they are, Halko slips in to the Imperial Trade Tongue, stepping closer to the group he says, "I hope you guys can understand me. I couldn't find the words in Liloqua. We could offer to pay a larger," He glances to the others, unsure if they can understand him or if they agree with what he is proposing, "refundable deposit with a smaller non-refundable payment? The refundable deposit can be used to cover the policy costs, if we even use them. This way its in our best interests not to make any claims. They may go for that."

Halko glances around at everyone, wondering if anyone even understood what he was saying.

Conditions:
Time: Day 46; 0745 Local

Cairo
CJ glances around to the others, then taps into his computer to see what wireless connections are available from their current location.
CJ rolls his shoulders and neck then offers, "You want to cut me a card with a chunk of funds? I'll walk over to Soniua Security Services and price check it." He detects one heavily firewalled network in the building, and many other networks whose signals are blocked from within the building. It's a miracle that CJ can even detect these other networks such are the digital defenses of this building.

Halko
Halko quietly observes and follows Rosseyn's lead, not trusting his own linguistic abilities, and playing to his strengths.

Niall
After a moment's introspection and reflection, he looks to Nova and nods meaningfully before perusing the rack of competitors' pamphlets. SSS has the fewest patrols, poorest response times, least expensive rates...and highest incidence of killing those who resist arbitration. PPP, on the other hand, has a stellar reputation like Premiere, but are far more expensive due to their increased overhead costs. Niall looks up to ask, perhaps somewhat sarcastically, "What happens when we have a contract dispute with our dispute resolution services provider?"

Cairo
CJ responds to Niall "Right, she said that if PDR is 'rated by its customers' and if it doesn't deliver on its end, we 'can always have a third party arbitrate that dispute against PDR. No guarantees' ... So if we aren't happy with the service we're paying for from PDR, we're supposed to pay to hire someone else to try and convince PDR to make it right, because they allegedly want to keep their reputations. Really it's a shakedown, and we're supposed to believe the ratings agencies are not fixed as well? ... With no damn Weapons policy, maybe we go with a 5-STAR dispute resolution method."

Halko
Halko slips in to the Imperial Trade Tongue, stepping closer to the group he says, "I hope you guys can understand me. I couldn't find the words in Liloqua. Could we offer to pay a larger refundable deposit with a smaller non-refundable payment? The refundable deposit can be used to cover the policy costs, if we even use them. This way its in our best interests not to make any claims. They may go for that."

Rosseyn
Rosseyn listens to his squad mates carefully and awaits the return of Negotiator Oneste. She returns after having been gone for ten minutes. She returns to her seat with a smile and places her hands on her lap. "Have you come to a decision today?"

Rosseyn replies, "We have chosen our path. We will forgo the lengthy introductions and simply pay to preserve our anonymity. I'm sure you've seen this before. At any rate, we would like to pay 20,000 for your services for a thirty day period." Her smile widens expansively and she laughs politely as if Rosseyn had told her a familiar, yet still funny, jest. "No. The price for that service package was offered in good faith and derived from the best actuarial data available to us. The offer stands at the previously mentioned price." Rosseyn accedes to the original stated sum for standard dispute resolution services over a thirty day period.

Negotiator Oneste gets quickly to work on her digital vambrace, draws up a standard contract, gets from each of the group members their offered name, affixes their unique genetic signatures to the names given, and has each of the group agree verbally to the contract and closes the deal by shaking each of their hands in turn. The same felinoid who brought them drinks earlier brings another tray, this time with a number of iridescent plasteel cards on it. Each card has a holo-pic and name in Pilian of a different member of the group and Premier's logo emblazoned across the entire card. The card is identical on either side. "You can use any terminal to transfer funds among one another on these cards, and among financial institutions as well if you wish. Premiere simply makes this possible, we are not responsible for any such transactions themselves, though we will of course arbitrate for you in the unlikely event that you need such services with a financial services firm like Yokohama. These cards are uniquely accessible to each of you, so there's no point in someone else stealing them unless it's some unknown being with the ability to exactly replicate your DNA signature. If you lose your card, just ask for a replacement. One will be provided quickly for a nominal fee. Any contractor worth a damn will accept funds from one of these cards without question. The card will change color according to the credit rating of the contractor to give you a general idea of his reputation history. If the card goes black, that contractor is not under contract with a DRO, and Premiere will not arbitrate on your behalf should you contract with them. Also, this card will not transfer funds with such a person. Anyone who reads black is a highly disreputable person. Such people in this society have nothing to lose, are usually extremely desperate, and highly dangerous." She hands a card to each of the team members. "If there's nothing else I can do for you, I wish you a profitable and enjoyable visit to Grymdin."

He warily shifts through various spectrums of the EM spectrum to see if his bio-metrically sync-d PDR Card is giving off any radio or other waves, **'I wonder if this Card-thing has a Tracker built in ... one way to tell. I'll try and Merge to it when we're somewhere more private. That and Brainiac Sammy can check to see about embedded programming maybe? ... ** The Pilot turns and offers up the map provided by the dock to Oneste, "Do you have a hotel you recommend?"

Once they head for the door, "Aldric? Let's split out some funds, hit up a hotel, and do shopping for provisions, and cut loose for a little ... " As they hit the street outside, CJ begins humming a song from a few years back to himself.

Halko/Torren nods to himself as the team finally gets this mess with the dispute resolution contract sorted out. Accepting the card Halko sighs, Locked to our genetic codes. Nice, just more of a data trail for someone to find and sell off. And if there's a bounty out of Arismal and us in particular, its just a matter of time before someone cracks this place and sells us out. Of course someone would need to know we are here first. I can only imagine how much data they'd have to sort through. That's Brainiac's area of expertise.

When Cairo/Noran speaks up, Halko nods, glances around to make sure they are in a relatively private location and says in Pilian, "Securing rooms would be a good idea, but based on our appearance, it might be a good idea to get some business suits before we start trying to set up bulk food contracts. I'd say at least one nice suit for whoever is going to be the negotiator and cheaper suits for a pair to play the assistant/body guard."

He pauses for a moment, "The others can roam around and try to find the small items we promised to bring back. Plus local time is still pretty early."

Niall fights hard to conceal his scowl when they end up paying 30,000 credits. My father would not be happy. But, at the thought of his father angry, Niall smiles oddly. He shakes his head, wondering why the memory of his father angry should make him happy.

As the group discusses the next step, and Halko suggests getting suits, Niall takes a quick moment to look around, and to remember how people were dressed as they passed through Grymdin, in an effort to discern local norms (i.e., do people go around armed and armored, or is it relaxed - business casual, or business formal, or what?).

Intelligence ☞ 62% 1d100 = 21 (SUCCESS)

Language: Pilian Tongue (Liloqua) ☞ 80% 1d100 = 4 (SUCCESS)

He sighs. "We do need to establish a homebase - especially so we can formulate a plan. We need Samil to identify some more-trusted vendors for what we want to procure, look for pricing guides, and whatnot. Obviously, we could do that on the ship, but we'd have to go through decon every time we went anywhere."

If he can determine that our current attire is unacceptable, he'll add: "Also, I noticed coming in that most people wear [business casual/business suits] type of clothing, so we can use that as a guide."

ROLLS CARRIED FORWARD

As they move along and CJ will pull out the map-brochure for a moment, then (absent other directions from Nova) point out Spacer Street as their next destination. En route he will pull up wireless access to see about pricing out hotels (looking for something pretty decent but not extravagant).

Computer Operation [115%]: 1d100 = 58 -- Locate a Commercial Wireless Network that will let them price out some hotels (ideally something in the 100 creds/night range if that looks to be middle-class) in the Novoo and Hykri districts, then access a TGE Catalog.

As the subject of purchasing 'suits' comes up, CJ chimes in casually, "We don't need to come across as well funded or respectable. Buying suits in the hopes that it makes us look like we have more money ... if anything, a better dressed customer with more apparent cash just gets the prices bumped up. If PDR's spiel is actually valid, the biometric cards are enough to show that we are serious. That and the fact that we aren't financing anything, the only question is the quality of their goods, not the viability of our funds. Now let's head for Novoo and find a couple rooms."

CJ is not intent on getting each person a room, or really even 2 rooms until there is more information available on how far their budget is going to go. **1 Million Credits to feed 10,000 people?! Seriously this is Bontu-fodder ... assuming they only want 30 days worth of food, and we only have operational costs of 50k ... which is crap and near impossible since we've already spent 31k ... that's something like 4 credits per person per day. How the hell do you feed someone 3 meals on 4 credits per day? and even if we could get someone to sell in that range, where do we put it on the Eclipse???? Blood and frakking ashes ... we have to bolt it all to the outside clamps and pray? This is just FUBAR, I need a drink.**

"Aldric? C'mon man. I've had plenty of your company, Sammy needs a shower, and if I don't eat something soon I'm going to take a bite out of Soria's shapely ass. Let's distribute funds and let people stretch their Frakking legs around the City."

I'd like to conduct some business with her... Rosseyn/Aldric smiles and shakes Negotiator Oneste's hand firmly before he gets up and leads the group out of the office. "Noran, you get to pick the hotel. Don't make it too fancy, we want to come home with some food, remember? Torren, you're in charge of getting us some new duds. Let's make sure we blend in properly. Seems business suits might be the way to go. Let's get this hotel situation figured out first, and then feel free to let loose for the night." Rosseyn/Aldric will follow Cairo/Noran's lead in finding a place for them to sleep and break off any necessary creds that people request.

Conditions:
Time: Day 46; 0800 Local

Cairo
CJ detects a heavily firewalled network in the building, and many other networks whose signals are blocked from within the building. He shifts through the EM spectrum to see if his bio-metrically sync-d PDR Card is giving off any radio or other waves. The PDR card is not radiating any kind of EM signature. Of course, it could simply respond to a certain frequency's ping. He turns and offers up the map provided by the dock to Oneste, "Do you have a hotel you recommend?"

Oneste replies with a slight smile. "Social Street in Hykri, and Spacer Street in Novoo both have a number of hotels. The ones on Spacer Street tend to be cheaper as they usually offer less in the way of features and the accommodations are more functional than luxurious, but being in Novoo they're also farther from all the fun of Hykri. Personally, I've only ever stayed at the Aerar Hotel on Social Street though...it's quite pleasant, and the staff is very helpful."

Once they head for the door, he says to Rosseyn, "Aldric? Let's split out some funds, hit up a hotel, do shopping for provisions, and cut loose for a little."

Halko
When Cairo/Noran speaks up, Halko nods, glances around to make sure they are in a relatively private location and says in Pilian, "Securing rooms would be a good idea, but based on our appearance, it might be a good idea to get some business suits before we start trying to set up bulk food contracts. I'd say at least one nice suit for whoever is going to be the negotiator and cheaper suits for a pair to play the assistant/body guard." He pauses for a moment, "The others can roam around and try to find the small items we promised to bring back. Plus local time is still pretty early."

Niall
When Halko suggests getting suits, Niall takes a quick moment to look around, and to remember how people were dressed as they passed through Grymdin, in an effort to discern local norms. There didn't appear to be any established style accepted by the majority of passers-by. A few bystanders were armored, even fewer had shoulder-slung long-arms, many were at least armed with sidearms or knives, but most simply wore varying manners of attire ranging from minimalistic clothes more appropriate to a tropical climate to what appeared to be expensive business attire. One thing he didn't notice much of in this region of Grymdin was shabby or poorly-maintained clothing. Everyone, regardless of what they wore, seemed to be wearing attire in very good condition.

He sighs. "We do need to establish a homebase - especially so we can formulate a plan. We need Samil to identify some more-trusted vendors for what we want to procure, look for pricing guides, and whatnot. Obviously, we could do that on the ship, but we'd have to go through decon every time we went anywhere." He adds, "Also, I noticed coming in that people in this district wear only high-quality attire, even if there is no set fashion standard, so we can use that as a guide."

Cairo
As they move along and CJ will pull out the map-brochure for a moment, then (absent other directions from Nova) point out Spacer Street as their next destination. En route he will pull up wireless access to see about pricing out hotels (looking for something pretty decent but not extravagant).
CJ accesses a commercial wireless network that allows him minimal access to its network, more substantial access, of course, comes has a price. He's able to price out some hotels in the Novoo and Hykri districts. The higher end rooms in Hykri soar into the thousands of credits per night, while the more lavish rooms in the Novoo run into the hundreds. There is no shortage of mid-range rooms in the 100 credits per night range in either district, though the ones in Hykri appear to be far more spartan at that price level. He then accesses the TGE catalog by switching to the TGE network. The connectivity on Grymdin--even his free access--is lightning fast by the standards of the A.D.F. fleet. Even so, the database containing the entire TGE catalog is still loading minutes after his initial query.

As the subject of purchasing 'suits' comes up, CJ chimes in casually, "We don't need to come across as well funded or respectable. Buying suits in the hopes that it makes us look like we have more money ... if anything, a better dressed customer with more apparent cash just gets the prices bumped up. If PDR's spiel is actually valid, the bio-metric cards are enough to show that we are serious. Rosseyn
Rosseyn smiles and shakes Negotiator Oneste's hand firmly before he gets up and leads the group out of the office. "Noran, you get to pick the hotel. Don't make it too fancy, we want to come home with some food, remember? Torren, you're in charge of getting us some new duds. Let's make sure we blend in properly. Seems business suits might be the way to go. Let's get this hotel situation figured out first, and then feel free to let loose for the night." Rosseyn follows the group's conversation with some interest.

Ryden & Gilina appear to simply be following the lead of their teammates.

What are your intentions?

GM NOTES:
There is one GM and one AGM. You will find that almost all location threads are GENERALIZED districts. Skills that aid in the navigation and exploitation of urban areas and social settings will be of benefit to those getting around Grymdin. Indicate clearly what you're looking for in a generalized area, post whatever skills might aid such a search, and let the A/GMs be creative.

Regarding undescribed threads: When a player indicates he's going to X location, I'll do my best to get the write-up for X written ASAP, then communicate such in the OOC chat.

Niall nods as Rosseyn/Aldric lays out the plan. "I'll accompany Noran." Turning to Halko, Torren, he adds "I like my shirts roomy," with a smile.

When Cairo/Noran leaves to scope out hotels, Niall follows. "Hopefully we'll find someplace out of the way and quiet, where Nova can establish a nice unobtrusive portal to the ship. For emergencies."

As Cairo and he (and whoever else is coming), leaves, Niall says "Let's also see if any restaurants are nearby whichever hotel we choose. I haven't had a good meal in forever."

Halko/Torren nods to Nova, "I'll do my best boss. But I'm gonna needs some money first. I think we need to make a stop at one of these terminals. Though it might be best if we get hotel rooms first. Then we'll have a base of operation and a place to meet up." He looks around and the group as he follows along. Might as well start out on Spacer Street after we book the rooms. It'll likely have clothes available somewhere near the hotel Cairo is gonna snag us.

Halko grins at Niall's request, "I'm gonna stick with a basic clean style. Does anyone have any preferences? Soria, do you prefer pants or a dress? And by all means, feel free to tag along with me, you'll likely get a better fitting outfit."

Halko stays with the group as they make their way to whatever hotel Cairo has picked out on Spacer Street.
