Robotic Features
The watcher series utilizes a Panorama Cluster Lens system and advanced robot optics allowing the robot to see in every direction at once, eliminating the possibility that it is surprised. In addition the optical system includes passive nightvision, infrared, ultraviolet, and thermal modes to a range of 2,000'. Telescopic and macro magnification are available, as are filters to reduce glare and digital image enhancements to clear and enhance dark or foggy images and also doubles the normal range of vision. Three searchlights with a 300' beam are installed equally around the sensor band and have 90 degrees of movement in every direction. A recognition program can identify 28,000 different enemy targets and has capacity for 2,000 more. OCR software allows the robot to discern words and text.
An advanced audio system amplifies the robots hearing allowing it to hear almost inaudible sounds out to 360' and in frequencies not detectable by the human ear. Filtration is in place to protect the audio sensors from damaging levels of sound and also allow background noise to be edited out so that specific sounds can be focused on. Sounds can also be analyzed by a system with 380,000 programmed samples and identified, the system also has the capacity for 40,000 additional sound files. A language translator allows the watcher series to communicate in 12 different languages (American, Chinese, Dragonese/Elven, Euro, Faerie Speak, Gobblely, Japanese, Kittani, Naruni, Russian, Spanish, and Splugorth/Demongogion) and can be programmed with 200 additional languages.
Radar & Sonar
A micro radar system allows the watcher series to identify 30 targets at a time and simultaneously track 12. Underwater the sonar can identify and track 24 targets simultaneously. Both have a range of 2 miles.
Other Sensors
In addition to the items already mentioned an array of additional sensors have been installed in the watcher series espionage/reconnaissance robots. Detectors for surveillance devices (60'), explosives (12'), motion (60'), radar, and radiation are all part of the standard sensor package as well as a biometric scanner to track environmental information and a molecular analyzer to test and analyze impurities in the air. A gyro-compass and depth gauge accurately tracks the robots position and a clock calendar keeps perfect time down to the 100th of a second.
Weapons & Combat
While combat is not the primary purpose of the watcher series an array of systems are available to ensure it's return from your mission with the intelligence you require. Laser targeting and cross-hair displays increase weapon system accuracy while a medium grade force field (150 M.D.C.) protects the robot from battlefield damage. Should the force field be breached a supply of micro-repair nanobots can replenish a moderate amount (120 M.D.C.) of external damage while cyber-nano-robot repair systems stand ready to resolve any internal damage (2 systems/80 M.D.C.). The following weapon systems are available as part of the standard package:
1. Particle Beam Arm
• Range: 2000'
• Damage: 6D6+6 M.D.
• Rate of Fire: Each blast counts as one melee attack
• Payload: Unlimited
2.Chest Laser Blaster
• Range: 800'
• Damage: 3D6 M.D.
• Rate of Fire: Each blast counts as one melee attack
• Payload: Unlimited
3. Chest Stun Blaster
• Range: 500'
• Damage: 5D6 S.D.C.
• Rate of Fire: Each blast counts as one melee attack
• Payload: Unlimited
4. Laser Cutter Finger
• Range: 6'
• Damage: 1D6x10 S.D.C., 1 M.D., 1D4 M.D., 1D6 M.D.
• Rate of Fire: Each blast counts as one melee attack
• Payload: Unlimited
5. Main Arm Retractable Vibro-Saber (2)
• Damage: 2D4 M.D.
• Payload: Unlimited

To maintain communication the watcher series has an extensive radio system that includes a wide band receiver and transmitter that has directional capabilities with a range of 150 miles as well as a shorter range backup radio that has a range of 50 miles (25 in the city). A retractable antenna can be extended that doubles the effective range of both radios and a scrambler system can be utilized to secure all communications. The robot is also capable of live video & audio transmission to a range of 120 miles (40 in the city) and the system is able to record for later transmission or playback.
Other Features
1. A super high-efficiency solar collection and energy storage system provides the watcher series with almost limitless power. As an emergency reserve a one year nuclear battery has also been installed.
2. In order to allow the robot to traverse almost any terrain it moves by a series of micro-hover jets. The system allows the robot to reach speeds of 200 mph and an altitude of 500', while in the water the watcher series can still reach speeds of 50 mph. To ensure it's ability to gather intelligence while remaining undetected the hover system has been designed to be as quiet as possible and the robot's frame is constructed to minimize any extraneous sounds. Several compartments have been built into the robot's body to allow it to carry items without disrupting silenced operations (1 medium in the main body, 1 small in the upper part of the tool hand arm).
3. All watcher series robots are environmentally sealed to withstand extreme temperatures, radiation, vacuum, and water with an operational depth to 3 miles.
4. In order to disrupt enemy operations the watcher series robots have the ability to imitate or mimic almost any sound and can even speak in frequencies inaudible to normal humans. In order to perfect the deception a voice disguise program is available with 200 accents and inflections pre-installed. To ensure your enemies hear what you want a loudspeaker is available to amplify the robot's voice up to 80 decibels.
5. Sometimes the information you seek resides within an enemies computer systems, in order to retrieve it the watcher series has been equipped with a special "hacking" software package to ensure any security standing between you and the data you want is quickly defeated. A special hyper-link connection allows the robot to essentially meld with and take over any computer/communications/weapon system as well as entire vehicles. And while the robot is perfectly capable of transmitting any data via radio a monitor jack is also available to quickly download any intelligence take.
6. It's said that you need the right tool for the right job, installed as the right hand of every watcher series robot is a tool hand with tiny lights built into every finger, finger tip screwdrivers with changeable heads, finger pliers, a finger-jack, a laser cutter, and a retractable drill in the middle knuckle. In order to ensure the robot is able to reach what is necessary each shoulder, wrist, and even the main body under the sensor band has been designed to rotate 360 degrees.

7. Grappling Hook and Line. A small collapsing grappling hook, capable of holding 500lbs and 100 ft of 500lb test cable is concealed in a small compartment on Watcher's chest. It can be fired up to 100ft away. The hook has 5 M.D.C. and line has 1 M.D. If used offensively, the hook will deliver 2D6 S.D.C. (not capable of M.D.)

Background Story

Location: Earth, North American Continent, the old American Empire

Dawn comes over the mountain and down into a peaceful forested clearing. A doe and her two fawns nibble at the dew covered succulent green shoots of grass at the edge of the forest, birds sing their songs, and squirrels chitter animatedly at each other. Suddenly the doe freezes and stares intently at the middle of the clearing. As the sun moves higher into the sky, its rays find something foreign, a small charcoal metallic spheroid that lays there like a discarded child’s toy. As the light touches it the spheroid’s three arms begin to twitch slightly and after a few moments of drinking in the sun’s nourishing energy it begins to rise up with a barely audible whisper of thrust.

A myriad of systems come to life bringing a vast cacophony of information that assaults the little robot’s mind, so much that it could quite possibly drive an organic mind insane. The entirety of the clearing is visible to simultaneously, the deer are spotted, identified, and deemed to not be a threat, the birdsong is matched to known samples and the species identified and cataloged, the very air is sampled and broken down to identify the component chemicals, and the falling air pressure is noted, as is the squall line forming in the distance. Thousands of data points and all of this happens automatically and constantly with the results noted and stored in robotic memory while a brief coded radio transmission is sent. “Watcher unit 47696c6573 online.”

Fully awakened now, the pitch of the engines change as the spheroid begins to move. Tucking its arms in close to its body the little robot builds speed and soars around the edge of the clearing, scattering the deer into the depths of the forest. The robot giggles as they run, shouting out in an achingly perfect boy’s soprano voice, “Wheeeee!” Suddenly the robot pops over the tops of the trees and with a whine of its turbines disappears into the distance.

A note to the GMs: Watcher is an espionage/reconnaissance robot of unknown origin and currently undefined mission. Right now it wanders the world experiencing life and sending the occasional coded transmission about its experiences. You are encouraged to utilize this as you see fit. Feel free to give it a mission, feel free to come up with your own idea of its origin and purpose. Don’t let anything set down in here stop you. While it thinks of itself as one of a series of robots it could just as easily be the unique creation of a single being. Or there could be an army of them exploring every corner of the megaverse, with an entire race of controllers moving them like chess pieces on a board as they execute a century’s long plan of domination and destruction. The sky is the limit. I as the player have no predefined notions of the correct answer and look forward to seeing how it develops.

  1. What emotion best describes your character?
  2. What emotion does your character evoke in others?
    Amusement or frustration
  3. What does your character need most?
    New experiences
  4. What is your character’s goal in life?
To know all that is knowable
  5. How does your character believe this goal can be accomplished?
It probably can't be, but Watcher will try anyway. Watcher will always want to know what is behind the curtain or over the next hill. The curiosity is literally programmed in. The only thing Watcher is completely uninterested in learning is where it came from or why it exists.
  1. Where did your character come from?
  2. When did you grow up?
Watcher is growing up right now.
  3. What values does your character hold?
Watcher really doesn't have any values at this point, being 0 days old it hasn't learned any.
  4. How does your character dress?
    Hoverspheres don't wear clothes.
  5. What are your character’s means?
Watcher is highly skilled in a variety of areas and a moderately tough combatant.
  1. What are your character’s personal tastes?
Watcher's tastes are fairly basic at this point, in some ways almost animalistic. It enjoys the feeling of the sun charging its batteries, the feel of air rushing through its engines, and examining new things.
  2. What are your character’s opinions?
In these early days Watcher doesn't have an opinion on much of anything. This will develop over time.
  3. What is your character’s comfort zone?
Being essentially a newborn Watcher doesn't really have a comfort zone or things that cause it stress. This will develop over time.
  4. Who has had the biggest impact on your character’s life?
Also something to be developed over time.
  5. What are some of your character’s unexpected quirks?
Watcher is very literal. Sarcasm and slang are lost on it.
Play Details
  1. What kind of story does your character belong in?
Watcher could fit in most any story.
  2. What role does your character fill?
Watcher is a scout and can hold its own in combat situations.
  3. What should the other players know about your character?
At this point Watcher is a lot like a very young child. Its impulsive, literal, doesn't understand sarcasm or slang.
  4. What is your play style?
I'm open to pretty much anything although playing out romance isn't something I have a lot of interest in. If/when it happens I'm a fade to black kind of guy.
  5. How do you want your character to die?
Watcher intends to live forever or die in the attempt.
