Energy Wings (Light)
  • S.D.C. Of Energy Wings: 80 each, but recover lost S.D.C. At a rate of 1D6 points per minute. Note: Energy Wings cannot be used as shields or to parry incoming attacks. Projectile weapons such as bullets, arrows, or thrown objects do no damage, passing right through the Energy Wings without damaging them. Likewise, physical blows (hand to hand punches, kicks, cuts, stabs, clubbing, etc.) do no damage to the Energy Wings. Other energy attacks, magic, psionics and shadow powers do full damage to the wings but require an Aimed or Called Shot to hit.
  • Flight Stats & Bonuses: Applicable only if there is room for the energy wings to be used. The character can hover several inches about the ground during combat in order to use her full bonuses.
  • Flight speed is 450 mph plus 30 mph per level of experience. Maximum Altitude: 30,000 feet but can also fly in outer space.
  • +1 attack/action per melee round.
    +1 to initiative
    +2 to strike with a punch or melee weapon while in flight.
    +2 to dodge when hovering or flying under 90 mph, but she is +6 to dodge when flying faster.

  • The hero is unaffected by thin air, high altitudes or G-forces less than 5. Can hold her breath for up to 8 minutes. Can go from zero to her maximum flight speed in roughly one melee (15 seconds). The acts of taking off and stopping or landing each count as one melee attack/action.
  • Energy Wings as Weapons: Anyone touching or brushing against the wings will take 2D6/3d6 points of damage. The winged character can also use the wings, both in flight and while on the ground, to slash and burn opponents.
    Range: Touch, half the wing span. Wings have a 12 foot wingspan, can reach up to 6 feet away, per each energy wing.
    Damage: 5D6/7.5d6 +1D6/1 1/2d6 points of damage at levels 7, 10, and 13.
    Bonuses: As per the character's usual bonuses.
  • Energy Blast: The super being may also focus the energy of her own wings to fire an energy bolt from her hands.
    Range: 500/750 feet +100/150 feet per level of experience.
    Duration: Instant.
    Damage: 4D6/6d6 points of damage from a single blast, 8D6/12d6 firing two simultaneous blasts, one from each hand at the same target. Roll for each blast to strike, with the second blast suffering a penalty of -1 to strike. If both blasts are fired simultaneously at two different targets, both blasts are -2 to strike.
    Attacks per Melee: Each blast (even if fired simultaneously) counts as one melee attack.

Background:

Linda was born in 1960 to a conventional, middle-class family living in Montana. A bright, athletic girl while growing up, she attended college and got her journalism degree in the early eighties. She worked as an investigative journalist throughout the rest of the eighties and into the mid-nineties, until she met and fell in love with the man who would become her husband. They married, and once she had borne their first child she retired from active journalism and happily set to raising their family.

The years passed, and she was happily immersed in family life. The children grew up and moved out, pursuing their own schooling, careers, and families, and grandchildren began to appear. Her husband retired and the two of them lived happily in their quiet little lives, and Linda thanked God for the bounties of her life. She had seen all too much of the darker underside of life in her journalist days, and was content to live out the rest of her life in peace.

Not that everything was wonderful, of course, although much of it was. She lost her dear husband to a heart attack, a terrible blow that took her time to rally from; when she did, it was thanks to the love and support of her remaining family. Having to bury her eldest son was harder; cancer took him away from her and his family, and that loss was a dark, dreadful one; no matter that he had been a grandparent himself, no mother should have to outlive her child. She knew that he had gone on to be in God's embrace, and that knowledge did eventually comfort her.

The world grew darker every day, it seemed, and as she approached what she felt might be the end of her own life, Linda began to despair for people. She volunteered at the homeless shelters, she sewed simple clothing to donate to those in need, and she baked endless cookies and cupcakes for fundraiser bake sales, but there was just so much poverty, neglect, and bigotry in the world, and the depredations of villains raised the suffering to new levels.

Things seemed to reach their nadir when she began to notice an increasing number of the regulars at the homeless shelter simply ceasing to show up. Pulling her investigative journalism skills out of deep storage, she dusted them off and tried to track down people that, in the end, had no one else who would bother to look for them.

Incredibly, through the grace of God actually discovered what had been happening to them; witnessing first hand the horrific assembly-line chop shop set up by a psychotic cyberneticist, using homeless people abducted off the streets as raw materials for his growing cyborg army. Aghast, disgusted, and terrified, Linda prayed with all her might for God to send an angel to help those poor, suffering people.

And for once, the good Lord did.
