3. Safecracker:

(1st) Shaped Charge
- Safecrackers who learn this ability can “shape” an explosive charge so that the explosive force released upon detonation damages only a specified area targeted. The precise amount of area affected is subject to the G.M.’s discretion, though typically, a Safecracker will target hinges, locking mechanisms, or, on a larger safe or vault, locking bolts or bars. Upon a successful Demolitions or Safe-Cracking roll, the Safecracker gains the advantage of causing no damage to any areas other than those targeted by the character. The Safecracker can literally stand only a foot away from the detonation, and neither she, nor anything she carries, will be damaged by the blast, regardless of how powerful it is. This ability can only be used with malleable explosive materials designed for this purpose. It cannot be used on military ordnance such as bombs, missile warheads, grenades, or any non-malleable substance used for demolitions purposes. A failed roll means that damage occurs normally upon detonation- sometimes resulting in the Safecracker unintentionally destroying or damaging goods (or themselves!). Unlike the Safe-Cracking skill, this ability is not restricted to safes, security doors, or safe deposit boxes - this special ability translates to anything the Safecracker wishes to target with an explosive blast of surgical precision (wheels, engines, brakes, sensory arrays, antennae, etc.)

Part I
Raz looked on as the CCW GSA agents dragged his father from their home on Gemini One. Only 15 years old Raz had been apprenticing under his father Rial as a locksmith. His mother Marzia was pleading with the agents. ”He has done nothing!!! Let him go!! Where are you taking him? Answer me!! Where are you taking my husband?” The closest agent put a hand out to stop her approaching the vehicle they were placing Rial in. Rial called out before the door was closed, ”Marzia, believe nothing. Don’t lose the shop!” With that the door was closed cutting Rial off from his family. The crowd began to disperse as the hovercars left the area. Raz as turned to comfort his mother and lead her back inside, he caught sight of a shadow of a man, not Seljuk, down the street. Raz blinked and the figure was gone. Leaving nothing but doubt and worry in its wake.

Over the next few months Raz did his best to keep the store in the black. It became difficult when customers began to dwindle in light of the money laundering and smuggling charges levered against his father, Rial. Raz had looked through his books and accounts looking for the evidence his father had committed these crimes. He could find nothing. The trial was stalled from both the prosecution and defense. Both sides oddly continued to stall any kind of trial. Any evidence Raz would uncover would be taken and lost by the defense team. Rial flat refused to talk to or acknowledge his family any time they came to see him. The months lead into a year, then two. Finally, by the third year with no trial and no customers The I’Syul Family Locksmiths had to officially close its doors and soon came the debt collectors. The hounded the family non-stop driving Marzia to a nervous breakdown.

Raz made his way out of the hospital, his mother would be kept for observation overnight, and headed for a small restaurant. As he walked the street, he noticed a shadowy figure on the street corner ahead of him. It appeared to his it’s back to Raz. Raz came to a stop next to the strange man as they both waited for the street lights to change and allow them to cross.

”Good evening my friend. Terrible new about your mother. I always thought she was strong, but three years of not talking to us...well drastic steps had to be taken.” Raz came around, arm already moving to slash the man with his claws, yet stopped at the man’s simple gesture of holding up his hand, as if to gently move Raz’s massive claws out of the way. ”Please there is no reason for unpleasantness. I am merely trying to convey that I have been attempting to get your family’s cooperation for some time now. You have my deepest sympathies and regret for how events played out.”

”Who are you and what do you want?”

”Oh, do forgive me where are my manners. I am Keller Arro. I am a business man. I am here to offer you a job. One your father flat refused. Unfortunately, my employers are not the people who take no for an answer. They insisted on such unpleasantness when they were rebuffed first by your father then by your mother. I did what I could to keep your family safe...”

”Safe...My mother in is the hospital and my father is still in prison and has yet to see a court room. And you are telling me this is your doing?” Raz’s eyes flashed with anger and his muscles quivered in rage, yet he could not bring himself to set upon this stranger. Weather it was the man’s professional cold tone or his lack of fear or even both, Raz could not attack a so clearly unarmed man. Raz let his fists and arms relax, ”Sorry. I interrupted you. You were saying.” Raz missed the small grin briefly flash across the man’s features.

”Accepted. I know it has been a trying time for you however I simply with to ask you to come work for me. If you accept my help and my job offer then these issues will resolve themselves. Your family will be whole again. They would even be able to save your shop.” Raz turn considering the offer. This all sounds like one of those movie conspiracies...It doesn’t feel right...but to save my family...is there a price that is too high to keep them safe? No there is not.

”What would you have me do?”

”Nothing other than what your father has already trained you in. You would simply do the same just for me instead of your family.”

Raz nodded his head. ”Then my services are at your disposal...as long as you honor your promise that my family will be taken care of.”

Keller let out a small laugh. ”I understand your hesitation. However I know you could end me in an instant with those claws of yours. This does not work with out trust. You will soon see I am a man of my word...as I hope you are.” Raz shook Keller’s outstretched hand. ”Come with me Raz. Let me introduce you to my family.”




Part II
Tick....Tick... Tick, Tick, Tick, Tick, Tick, Clank. Finally! Damn stubborn lock. Raz gingerly swung the safe open, careful to not let the hinges make any noise. Raz gently removed the contents of the safe and secured them in his black leather case. He secured the now empty safe and departed the residence, reenabling the computer-controlled security system as he went. Once outside Raz moved into the crowded street of the Market on Level 3-B of Phase world. Raz made his way to a monorail line that would take him close to his home on level 5. No one payed attention to the ten-foot lizard in their midst. Raz was dressed in a well-tailored black business suit with gray shirt below it. Two magnets in the collar allowed them to connect to hide his shirt and assist with him remaining hidden in the shadows then when not needed go back to looking like a business man on his way to or from work. Raz loved watching crowds and people. How people could blatantly ignore the world around them, each consumed with his or her own little world. Raz loved the bustle of the monorail and the public transportation system. It provided him with the best opportunity to observe people. How they would shy away from some to get closer to others. Each one trying to keep their own space, and Raz silently chuckling when they could not.

Raz hung his Jacket on a peg by the door and took a deep breath and his mouth began to water at what he smelled. Ah Mother has stew on. Raz made his way to the kitchen to find his Mother stirring a bubbling pot of stew on the stove. Raz gave her a small kiss on the cheek. ”I’ll be right back up Mother. How is Father?”

Marzia replied without looking at Raz, ”He still not talking you, but he understands what you have done for the family. He does not like that you took the Arro last name.” Father will get over it some day. I had to save the family. I could not see him rot in prison for a crime he had not committed. Doesn’t excuses my crimes but they have been minor in comparison.

”I know Mother. It was out of necessity. Ours had been tarnished beyond redemption.” Raz kissed her on the cheek. ”I will be down stairs for a moment. Be well Mother.”

”Diner will be ready for you when you get back.” Raz left her in the kitchen and made his way into his basement. The basement door was biometrically locked and would only open for Raz’s tail. It was an authentication he was confident most people would not think about. Raz turned on a small light above his table and opened his briefcase to take stock of his haul. Hmm. Lets see. Twenty thousand credits...a small bag of gems...last will and testament...Ah! Here it is. The legal documents for the upcoming trial for one of the Society of the Knife...without these he should walk free...What is this? Raz opened a personnel on the bottom of the legal documents. Raz began reading through the file. GSA Agent Anthony Burg. Human. Good service record. Several commendations...a few complaints...about normal for one like this...what is this...skims during drug busts...provided information to a crime syndicate about a rival for money...pictures...oh this is good...Stationed on Phase World...I have to meet this man. Raz separated the file from the items he had been hired to acquire. He had two weeks before he would have to dead drop the documents for the Society of the Knife, so he decided to meet this GSA Agent. Lucky for Raz, Agent Burg was station on his level, just a monorail ride away.



Raz sat on a bench overlooking GSA Agent Burg’s apartment. He was hunched over his computer looking like just another business man hard at work on his off hours. In reality Raz was hacking into Burg’s security system to give him access to the speaker in Burg’s residence. Once he was in Raz grinned. Show time.

”Good evening Agent Burg. I am terribly sorry to intrude like this but we need to talk.” Burg spun around to face the speaker in his wall. Raz’s voice came through with an intentional mechanical buzz masking his voice but keeping his tone.

”Who are you? How did you gain control of my home, it’s a closed system. I am a GSA Agent...”

”Hahaha....Agent Burg...I would not have initiated this contact if I did not know who you were. Let us jump straight to it shall we. I recently became aware that you were being blackmailed by the greasiest banker on level 3. Now I also happen to know this banker recently sold your information to the Five Boyz Gang. Seems like this banker had more to gain by killing you. Oh you don’t have to take my word for it, but I would not recommend using your personal vehicle. If you link your radio to your home I can show you.” Raz watched Burg eye the speaker with suspicion, but a moment later he connected his radio to his home network and Raz patched through it. Raz could have patched directly into it but he did not want to give Burg that information. Raz knew Burg was cataloging everything that was said and done. This would have to be done right if Raz was to walk away with a new ally. ”Check...how am I coming through?”

”I can blasted hear you!! Lets get this over with.” Burg mad his way down to his vehicle. He was 30 feet away when he triggered his remote start. Before Raz could say anything Burg’s vehicle exploded the shock wave sending Burg crashing back into the stairs he had just left. Shit...that was not supposed to happen...well it’s a good thing I actually wired it to explode...forgot about the remote starts...oh well this should be better then if I had just led him to find it. Raz waited until he was sure Burg could hear him. ”Burg...BURG...are you injured? Well...I told you not to use your car...that was a nice model too.”

Burg snatch the radio from his hip. ”You!! It was YOU!! You tried to kill me!!!”

Raz let his laugh carry across the radio. ”My dear Burg had I wanted you dead or removed I simply would have provided the bankers evidence to your superiors. There is more than enough to put you in the same prison you have put so many...how long would you last there I wonder? No, I have no use for you dead. I do have use for you being in your current position. I wish to have a partnership. One where we supply each other with information that would benefit the other. In exchange we can continue our less then reputable endeavors and we would never have to go to war with each other.”

”Sounds good when you are holding all the cards. It would only work if we both held leverage against the other.” Raz smiled He bit. He’s mine.

”What if I were to provide you with your file? All the evidence the banker had on you?”

”If that were to happen then I would be in agreement.” Burg’s breathing was finally back under control and the sound of emergency sirens could now be heard.

”Wonderful. I have a dead drop on this level just outside the monorail station you take to get to your office. Look for the electronic GSA announcement board. On the bottom left there is a small tray, it will contain your documents. If you ever need to get a hold of me leave a white chalk mark on the light pole next to the announcement board.
