Ley Line Phasing - the power to teleport from one place on a specific ley line to another point on the same line. To initiate a ley line phase/teleport, the mage must concentrate, opening himself to the ley line energy and focusing all of his attention to the task of teleporting. Engaging in conversation, combat or even self defense will break the concentration, forcing the character to start over. 1D4 melees of concentration is required to phase. The ley line teleport is always on target because the wizard is attuned to the ley line and will appear exactly at the point desired. However, there is no way that the character can know what is presently happening in that area and could phase himself into the middle of an armed camp. The ability to perform a ley line phase is common to all temporal wizards. It costs no P.P.E. to perform, but does take its toll on the body, limiting the number of possible phases to a maximum of four per hour and four plus one per level of experience in any 24 hour period. The character can only teleport himself and his possessions, and the location must be on the same ley line, like a mystic railway. To switch lines, the wizard must first travel to that connecting ley line junction.

Bogdan awoke with a start to find himself sitting upright in bed, hands clutching at the thin mattress as if that could keep him from being drawn back into the nightmare. After a moment he released a shuddering breath and scrabbled for the pack of cigarettes and lighter on the nightstand. After several attempts, the mage finally succeeded in lighting one and began to relax as he drew the smoke deep into his lungs. Only then did he cast a glance at the hired female companion sleeping next to him. Sliding from under the blanket, Bogdan padded to the hotel room’s window and gazed into the night.

As he stared unseeing at the lights of Kiev below, his mind returned to the start of the nightmare and ran a rapid montage of scene after terrible scene. His father was a happy Cossack warrior who had left Warlord Burgasov’s employ to become a simple farmer and raise a family as well as crops. His mother was remembered as a beautiful woman who kept a joyful home… until the day the reavers came. Bogdan learned later the raiders served Baron Orloff, riding into another warlord’s territory to raise havoc and strife. Bogdan was six years old and remembers his father refusing to submit to the bandits even in the face of certain death. That death came quickly at the hands of a large man with a sword, Boris. The mage’s mother’s death took much longer to arrive and the boy was forced to watch every moment of it.

Afterwards, as the boy sobbed and cradled the defiled body of his mother, the reavers stripped the home of anything valuable. Just before they rode away, Boris decided to grab the boy and take him along. Boris – to this day the name brings a shudder to Bogdan’s frame. He hugs himself, hands resting on opposite shoulders. Against his wishes, his fingers traced the circular scars where the thugs would extinguish their cigarettes. All except for Boris; he smokes cigars. Or rather, he did smoke cigars until the night Bogdan managed to get a knife and drive it repeatedly into the larger man. The first stab severed the femoral artery, hitting Bogdan with a massive spurt of blood, but that didn’t stop him from continuing to drive the knife in until Boris stopped twitching.

The boy ran, driven by fear to run faster and farther than he ever had before. Finally he collapsed onto a layer of dried pine needles beneath the shelter of a large tree and slept. For the next several years, Bogdan wandered Russia, working menial jobs for food and stealing it when there was no work to be found. He met Ickxiz the temporal raider along the way; something about the young boy, now aged 10, prompted the D-bee to offer training in return for servitude. Bogdan studied hard and worked harder, laboring at tasks both mundane and horrific, hording funds to finance future revenge against the baron.

The newly minted temporal wizard turned back to survey the room and the sleeping escort. Word of rune armor for sale brought him to Kiev. Knowing the purchase would likely drain him of funds, the young man decided to live it up for a night before he became a pauper once again. Stubbing out the neglected cigarette in the ashtray, Bodan starts for the bed, might as well get my money’s worth…
