Background Story

I'm woken up by the sound of metal scraping on metal.

Command: Replay logs from Sag 4013 to present.

Commanders log 3/54th PF Kremin Sag 4013: We came through the portal 40 miles west of a large ruined city, once on the ground we broke up into our teams and headed out. Twenty minutes later, we all received a call through the portal from Operation back on our home world, "portal is tearing itself apart, shutting down to repair, continue operations, and maintain this frequen...,” and then silence followed.

Team Alpha 36 log 3/54 PF base camp 1005104: Draven (my point man) and Elkis "Ears" Carter (radio man) joined Team Alpha 36 along with 6 explorers. Our Mission: to explore the ruined city and the northwest location of the ruins.

Team Alpha 36 log 3/54 PF base camp 1006104: It is 0500 and start of current mission. All members accounted for.

Team Alpha 36 log 3/54 PF Detroit 1014104: My team ran into a group of individuals and robots with skull motifs on their chest and helmets. Four explores were KIA by these individuals. Need to explore this new threat.

Team Alpha 36 log 3/54 PF Tolkeen 1125105: Linguist, Mason "Mr. F" Finburg left our team to stay in Tolkeen. He stated that he wanted to continue learning new languages as well as to learn more about his growing fascination with magic.

Team Alpha 36 log 3/54 PF Fort Comanche 0512109: Traveling with Comanche Indians and psi stalkers from the Fort Comanche area. Heading to the Xiticix area because "Slab" wants to see what makes these bugs tick, so humoring him.

A brilliant flash of light that only lasted a few seconds and then the original command frequency came alive with request for help.
"Leader Lakota, the signal matches the old explorers’ freq and the command codes match,” said Ears.
"Ok, but can you be sure,” I replied.
Ears spouts off, "Wait one, data and message incoming", we drop to one knee and we are drawing weary looks from the Comanche Indians.
"Holy Shit,” exclaims Ears, and looks right at me saying, "Half a million refugees inbound just north of us, and our planet under attack! Demons?"
"Elkis, confirm command codes once more", I snap! I look towards the Comanches, "We may need to leave in a big hurry, and I’ll explain later my friends.”
Ears confirmed the command, and then gave a course and distance to Draven.
"Alright, let's move! Draven, your leading us there," I state.

"Command: Fast Forward playback"

2 hours 04 minutes: Slab takes a direct hit from two CS tanks...
3 Hour 42 minutes: Ears calling for help, then the Xiticix carrying him up into the air and ripping him apart.
4 Hours 10 Minutes: Draven reports, "Taking just over a dozen refugees west, waiting on orders.”
"Head west till you're out of the Xiticix territory, then head south to the Comanche lands, over,”
I instruct.

A huge demon hand grabs and throws my body at a Coalition APC. The jetpack activates in mid flight, causing my body to crash into a heaping pile of metal. Screen becomes static for 4 minutes before it clears to show my body lying in a pile of metal and the demon walking away as the battle continues around me. A pre-recorded burst transition is heard being sent out to any remaining team members, "I'm down and out of the fight, meet at rendezvous point."

Recording Ended: elapsed time 4 hours 38 minutes, 3 hours of damaged footage.

"Well that can't be good! Am I the only one to make it?” I say to myself, "I need to get back to Fort Comanche."

Once I arrive, I ask around after my team members and the refugees, but no one has seen or heard of any refugees coming this way. I spend a couple of months waiting and wondering what to do now. Then one day I realize, "no team, no mission, home has gone to hell in a hand basket". I sigh, "Guess I need to start making money and work out some revenge on those bugs, demons and the CS. Next stop, Merc Town.”
