A black stretch limo pulls up to the valet entrance to the restaurant, it comes to a stop. Domingo will wait for the valet or driver to open the door before stepping out. " Gracias senor," he will say with a smile and a slight bow. He waits for the others to get out of the limo before continuing inside.

Once inside, Domingo will address the Maitre D', " Mr Sanchez and his party."

( Our AGM should be handling our little adventure, just so we don't have any confusion.)

Jez inwardly scowls at Domingo's manners. Well, he did grow up on this frakkin' backwater, so I guess I can't ride him too hard for lacking in basic civility. "No holding the door for the lady on this world, eh? Greasy, you never fail to meet my expectations. Thanks for being so dependable. Sometimes a girl just doesn't want any surprises, you know?" Jez slinks out of the limo, careful to make sure her dress doesn't reveal anything it wasn't already designed to reveal.

The maitre d’ at the restaurant smiles at Domingo and Jez as they enter the restaurant. ”Welcome, Monsieur and Mademoiselle.” He greets them in a friendly manner as he starts to gather up menus. ”How many will be joining you this fine day?”

Domingo answers back, " Well, for now it is just three of us, but we will have another two possibly joining us soon." When the maitre d' begins to lead them to their seats, Domingo will step to the side and let Jez lead the way. He will pull the seat out for Jez when she gets to the table...

Once seated and asked for drink orders, Domingo will answer, " Well, what would you suggest in the way of a fine wine?" He will then nod to the others, " Go ahead and order whatever you wish, let's enjoy ourselves. Viva nuestras vidas, amigos."

Domingo will wait for the others to show up before starting to order the dinner, though he will suggest an appetizer if no one asks about one while they wait.

After the wine arrives, Domingo will start up a bit of conversation with the others. " So what do you think for after dinner? I'm pretty much up for whatever you want to do... We can probably find plenty to do here in the Hub or the Spokes, or even maybe check out that Firewaters that Jez was so interested in. I'm not so sure what that place is like, have you been there before?"

Cabal was quite cramped in the limo ride, any fitting simile would almost certainly involve sardines... for lack of being entertained during this ride, such a simile is lost to feelings not unlike frustration. When finally freed of his well accommodated and tiny prison, Cabal dislodges himself, with surprising grace, from the back of the vehicle. His panties, for lack of a better term, are in quite the bunch as he maintains that classic stoic vigil up until the seating portion of the trip. Although when Jezebel scolds Domingo, Cabal quite innocently chimes in, "But surprises are so lovely!" Really lacking any insight into the sub-definitions of the scene.

Lacking any need, and being unable to partake entirely of foodstuffs, Cabal is quite confused by the implied castes of sustenance. "Hmm, you mean to say you actually have a method devised to differentiate and categorize the molecular composition of even like solutions..." Noticing the confused stares of his companions he realizes his nature as a machine god is still an undefined. Hmm, based on my observations, a bit of acquiescence accompanied by participation would alleviate any feelings of anxiety... Taking the social queues, relayed by means of molecular analyzer. Cabal offers a substitute clearing of the throat, which sounds more like a blender going through an industrial shredder. "If I might suggest Domingo, that we forgo the wine for a more exotic spirit. The Draconian Brandy if you will." Although this suggestion appeals eloquent, Cabal is just using his superior auditory receptors to parrot another patron halfway across the restaurant. "In my opinion, the subtle warmth laced with the undertones of chocolate barley and actual dragons teeth is unparalleled in the known world. It might be a potent solution, but one well savored."

Looking confidant in himself, if he could do so. Cabal will order whatever Jezebel does, since Domingo has yet to order. Thus far Cabal is quite entertained with this little escapade; it is ever so delightful, adorning the guise of a sheep that is.

Jezebel's practiced guard lowers just long enough for an honest smile to beam out at Domingo. It's like the first light after a thunderstorm: beautiful, brief, and quickly eclipsed by the surrounding storm clouds. Jez scans the menu quickly; she was ravenous. She quickly responds to the appetizer inquiry. "Salmon Trout Tartare with Pressed Caviar and Tomatoes and Cheddar Gougères for all, please." She's read and understood these words from the menu perfectly, but her pronunciation of the more uncommon words is phonetic. Unaware of her butchery of language, she grins and whispers conspiratorially "Whatever you don't eat, I will. It's only through sheer willpower that I didn't dismember and eat Domingo here on the ride over."

If Jez hears the source of Cabal's "refinement" as well, she'll say nothing, but catalog this behavior for consideration later. In either case, she will grin wickedly at Cabal. "Oh, let's just order both. That way we'll have at hand a bit of excitement or fine wine as we please."
Domingo wrote:" So what do you think for after dinner? I'm pretty much up for whatever you want to do. Jack walks in dressed in his new black suit. He actually looks like someone showing up for a funeral instead of a meal. He looks around for some sort seating attendant. It is so much easier when you have a place that delivers fine food.

Once he spots the likely person he approaches and says ”Hello. I am supposed to meet some friends here. I am not sure what the name was on the reservation. I know him as Domingo... he is Hispanic. Should be with an attractive woman in a black dress. There may be more with him.”

The maitre d’ nods at Domingo and says, “Excellent. Follow me, please.” He then leads Jez and Domingo to a table that sits 6 people and hands Domingo and Jez a menu after they have both sat down. He hands Domingo a wine list that contains a long list of excellent red wines, white wines and blush wines such as a variety of merlots, chardonnay’s and shiraz. ”Our house Merlot, which is a red wine, is excellent!” He then asks, Now, can I get you all some appetizers?”

Jez wrote: She quickly responds to the appetizer inquiry. "Salmon Trout Tartare with Pressed Caviar and Tomatoes and Cheddar Gougères for all, please."

The waiter pauses a minute, making sure he understands exactly what Jez just said, though there is no trace of confusion on his face. ”Excellent choice, mademoiselle!” He writes down Jez’s order and waits for any other orders.

The maitre d’ smiles at Jack politely and says, ”Ah yes, please follow me sir.” He then leads Jack to the table where the rest of the Explorers Inc group are seated. The waiter then asks Jack, ”Can I get you something to drink, sir?”

Jack looks at the waiter and says ”I would like some black tea, brewed double strong, served hot with honey. I would also like some stuffed mushrooms for an appetizer.” He looks at those gathered before finding a seat away from Jezebel.

While he is thinking about it, Jack pulls out the little bug probe and hands it back to Cabal. He says ”One of these days, I hope you will tell me where that was manufactured. I would love to see the process... and the machinery used in such fine fabrication.” Not sure I should tell him that I have the schematics stored on my computer... though they won't do me much good without the fabrication methods.

Jack address the table as a whole. ”I know you all have something going on after dinner. I will be going back to the compound till shops open up. I want to see if any of the scrap dealers around here have some things I could use as materials in my designs. Does anyone have anything they need repaired while we are in town? Or a suggestion on something that might be useful in the field? I am a tech-specialist... not a combat specialist.”

Seemingly satisfied with his interactions, Cabal begins to get a bit excited in a manner of sorts - essentially resulting in him playing with his hands. When Jezebel agrees, or at least acknowledges his suggestion for alcohol, he looks at the waiter glaringly to oblige the tables demand. "Please if you will, retrieve the finest selections of the appropriate designations. My compatriots are quite parched, judging by their..." Catching himself once more acting unlike an organic, he simply stops, mid sentence. Assuming his demand was quite understood, the need to extrapolate was simply unnecessary. That and that horrible sensation drips through his circuits once more as Jack makes his way to the restaurant.

Sitting ever so dashingly in his cloak, Cabal turns his head, and nothing more, to greet Jack and Jenny. "Oh what a pleasure you could join us. I believe drinks and appetizers have been ordered for the table - oh and Jack, I hope I was good company." Outwardly retrieving the piece of himself, Cabal gently grasps the probe, as though it were absolutely fragile. "You've taught me quite a bit Jack, and I must say we should discuss your... genetics, at the most convenient opportunity. I'm glad you're left curious as well, I can't say that I'm surprised though - embarrassingly enough though, I couldn't tell you exactly from where I hail. I believe that information was damaged during a slight mishap." After cradling the probe for an uncomfortable length, Cabal stands to apparently replace the missing piece of himself - as he lifts his cloak, revealing lasting battle scars and more of his engineering. The Probe retreats to a portion of his chest where a diaphragm would be normally located; apparently cabals midsection is deliberately skeletal in nature, as a rather durable looking spine keeps the two sections of his body connected. "There we are, whole again..." Acting naturally, he seats himself again before continuing on the topic of the nights festivities.

Returning to the annoying habit of tapping his fingers with mechanical exactitude, he ponders silently on what he would like to do. "Oh here's a thought, why don't we simply paint the town red - if that's the appropriate saying." The callousness of his delivery begets a slight sense he might mean something more sinister than simple visitations of the local buzz-feed.

Jezebel wrote:"Oh, I've just seen Firewaters while making my way to the compound. It's quite nearby our place, you know. I don't have anything firmly in mind. I say let's just see where the night takes us."

"Oh yes I quite agree, why beget specifics! Let's just simply keep entertained, I'm sure something interesting will happen."

The maitre d smiles politely at Jenny and says, "Ah yes, follow me, mademoiselle." He then leads Jenny over to the table where the rest of the EI crew are and pulls out the chair for her and, when she sits down, gently pushes the chair in. As he does this, the waiter comes along with the hor d'oeuvres that Jez had ordered for the entire table and the beverages that that table had ordered thus far. He then turns to Jenny and asks, "Can I start you off with a drink or an appetizer, miss?"

Domingo can't hide the grin on his face, poor, poor Jack, you just keep setting her up. Your still new, but you'll learn... " Ja, ja, ja... Well, Mr. Decker, it seems you might be joining us for the night. Unless you plan to upset the lady and you probably don't want to do that." Domingo gives Jez a wink, " Let's play nice though, we do need him around to keep us rolling in the field."

Domingo smiles, " Tonight we can try different things, maybe everyone likes something different... but, we can experience them together." When Jezebel makes her comment about real men, Domingo shoots Jez a sharp look, but then smiles, " Well dear, you probably wouldn't even want to know what a spook like me can do... as for landing gear... um, I think I get that one, sin comentarios mi amiga." Domingo drinks a bit of his wine and laughs some more. I'm almost tempted to play some mind games on her, just to see her reaction, but she might not take it well if she knows...

Jez wrote:"That's Jenny for you, always thinking about herself and excluding others. What you wanna get for chow, Cornpone? Oh, and the appetizers are for everybody. Dig in!"

" Well, I'm impressed... I'm really surprised to see Jenny all done up. Chica, estás chulísima. It's not often we get a chance to see the softer side of our ladies, but I'm impressed. We should do this more often I think." He samples the appetizer that Jez ordered and comments, " Not a bad choice, mild and delicate... plus, it goes well with the wine."

After a minute enjoying the appetizer, Domingo then turns to the machine, Cabal. " Well, Mr. Cabal. I must admit... it is hard for me not being able to read someone. You are a strange thing for me, something I can not read, no outward thoughts, no aura to see. What is it like to be what you are? Do you have any dreams or goals, something that you feel, um strongly about." Domingo waits for the machine to respond before following up with anything more.

When the waiter returns for dinner orders, Domingo will let the others order first, " I'm interested in one of the exotic specials, anything really interesting would be great. Any suggestions?

He will drink a bit more wine as he waits for his meal and continue to be jovial and chatty with the others.

I'm glad you're left curious as well, I can't say that I'm surprised though - embarrassingly enough though, I couldn't tell you exactly from where I hail. I believe that information was damaged during a slight mishap."

Jack nods his head and says ”You were aware of my telepathic link with your... that piece of you? I would be happy to discuss my genetics... that is if I knew anything about them. As for knowing where you are from... with the proper tools, I could probably assist you in recovering those data files.” He gets an odd look on his face, somewhere between terror and murderous rage and says ”I, too, know what it is like to not know your true origin.”

Jezebel wrote:"Don't be such a pussy, Jack. You're not frakking dead yet, but neither are you alive if all you do is consort with machines. You try to hide in the compound while the rest of us are getting to know each other, and I'll have Jenny here hog-tie you and tickle you until you piss yourself. You're not ducking out on us, mister. Frankly, I don't know you well enough yet to trust you alone with my gear. I'd sooner keep an eye on you and the can opener here."

Jack gets a shocked, hurt look on his face. She is the most blunt female I have ever met. He bows his head and mumbles ”Yes ma'am.” What is wrong with consorting with machines? At least with the non-sentient ones there is no risk of being abused by them.

Jack quietly eats a few of the stuffed mushrooms, using a fork and knife. It seems he goes out of his way to not touch his food with his hands.

Domingo wrote:" Ja, ja, ja... Well, Mr. Decker, it seems you might be joining us for the night. Unless you plan to upset the lady and you probably don't want to do that."

Jack does not even look up, but quietly responds. ”No sir, I don't wish to upset anyone.”

Domingo wrote:" Well dear, you probably wouldn't even want to know what a spook like me can do... as for landing gear... um, I think I get that one, sin comentarios mi amiga."

This actually gets Jack to look up. He looks directly at Domingo with a look of interest and says, ”Spook? You do not look like a ghost to me.” Thinking this rude, Jack instantly drops his eyes back to his food and mumbles ”Sorry.”

When the waiter appears, Jack says ”I would like whatever the chef considers his or her specialty in a main course and desert. Thanks.”

"Can opener, how quaint." Cabal gently chortles as best he can imitate. For the vast majority of the interplay Cabal is characteristically silent, watching as he usually does. The sub-context of the coaction is fairly interesting for Cabal, its silliness not unlike that of a satirical play, each respective character reciting their biologically scripted lines. It was odd how predictable, yet intrinsically chaotic the events of the fresh night were beginning to unfold - and despite his vast familiarity with biological fact, the anomalous nature of these organics seemed to keep it so... entertaining.

For lack of a better term, Cabal began to subconsciously fondle a glass of some irrelevant liquor when Jezebel displays her... talents. Unsure of what to make of the humanoid, tinges of something not unlike fear, give him pause. No relevant examples or theories exist in my data banks to reference... nothing save my own hypothetical queries. How fantastic! Observing Jezebel quite intently now, Cabal attempts small talk, or something... "I can save you the trouble, Jezebel. I've never once bled in my life - cross my heart!" Motioning a crisscross over the location one would expect the organ to be in any common humanoid.

Perhaps in a flash of mechanical genius, madness, or just plain social ignorance, Cabal decides to partake of the alcohol. Proceeding thusly, Cabal looks awkwardly down at the glass in his hand and swirls the liquid; the general prevalence of this gesture in the restaurant is quite obviously his inspiration. Ceramic plating and synthetic musculature pull away to reveal that hideous, and thankfully hidden, maw of his. It's hard to conclude its purpose is for anything other than macabre butchery - in a deviously engineered kinda way. As Cabal raises the glass to his mouth, or closest equivalent, he almost appears to be sporting a grin just before partaking of the beverage. "Nutritious! Or delicious rather." All the while, liquor spilling through a cleverly designed drainage mechanism inherent to his design, drenching the tablecloth and a good bit of his cloak. The fluidity (no pun intended) of this display is almost so exact, it squarely registers as fucking horrifying, or what the civilized world refers to as uncanny valley. "I pride myself in the fact that I'm always thinking of others." At which point Cabal slides a plate of appetizers, with a single articulated pinky servo, to Jenny - can't have her starving now.

Domingo wrote:"Well, Mr. Cabal. I must admit... it is hard for me not being able to read someone. You are a strange thing for me, something I can not read, no outward thoughts, no aura to see. What is it like to be what you are? Do you have any dreams or goals, something that you feel, um strongly about."

Quite tickled with a perceived complement, "My oh my, what a provocative question - mutually beneficial, for science that is..." Taking a moment to reflect on an appropriate and coherent response, Cabal starts intertwining his fingers. "you're familiar with Spanish, obviously. You wouldn't perchance happen to know it's parent language, Latin, would you? No, how sad. Well, there is a phrase I have rattling around in my banks, Deus Ex Machina... God from the Machine; that is what it is like to be me Domingo. Resolution and expression." Staring into his thoughts for a moment, Cabal pauses before clarifying his obviously esoteric answer. "I really couldn't explain to you why I chose that particular phrase, as I mentioned, there were unfortunate circumstances that have left artifacts in my memory banks. As for a goal, I suppose the most relevant definition would be knowledge, I do so love intellectual pursuits. As for dreams, I wouldn't want to bore you with the verbose and highly metaphoric definitions it would require to explain that little bit... maybe another time. Actually, a counter offer: how about in our efforts to familiarize, we exchange perspectives. I'm likewise curious about your... abilities. Given enough time, I'm sure we can gain our respective answers"

Jack wrote:”You were aware of my telepathic link with your... that piece of you? I would be happy to discuss my genetics... that is if I knew anything about them. As for knowing where you are from... with the proper tools, I could probably assist you in recovering those data files.”

Cabal always finds Jack so amiable, perhaps it was his lack of social grace - or perhaps, it was something more along the lines of a perturbed predator/prey relationship. Regardless, Cabal found himself more accepting of the man. "Absolutely uncomfortable, if you're curious. I'm sure I could decode your genome if you were willing, nothing invasive - well, depending on how quickly you want the results." Accessing his memory files once more, Cabal seems troubled. "Now that I reflect, I'm not sure the files of my origin ever existed... perplexing to be sure!"

It is perfect for anyone who eschews eating meat. It is accompanied by our house salad, which is adorned by in season vegetables. We also have a delicious fury beetle steak that is marinated in a sauce made up of soy sauce, balsamic vinegar and Worchestershire sauce which gives it a delightful burst of flavour. The steak also comes with a baked potato with your choice of toppings and our house salad.” The waiter then falls silent, so that the members of EI can place their dinner orders.

As the waiter tells the group the specials, another waiter comes along with Jenny’s scotch and places it on the table along with a napkin. “Here you go, miss. Our finest single malt scotch. Enjoy.”

"Aww, don't get all butt-hurt on us, Jack." She chucks him lightly in the shoulder. "I protect my own, but I don't let cubs stay in the den; sooner or later you gotta get out and hunt with the rest of the pack." As fragile as a specialized tool, isn't he? Jez slides Jack one of the milder drinks on the table as a sort of olive branch.

Cabal wrote:"Can opener, how quaint." Observing Jezebel quite intently now, Cabal attempts small talk, or something. "I can save you the trouble, Jezebel. I've never once bled in my life - cross my heart!"

Jez's revelry dies in an instant. "So you're a machine. Okay. Well, at least you're not a disgusting abomination." She nods, apparently satisfied in her own manic way, then snaps up a Cheddar Gougère with her utensils.

Domingo wrote:When Jezebel makes her comment about real men, Domingo shoots Jez a sharp look, but then smiles, " Well dear, you probably wouldn't even want to know what a spook like me can do...as for landing gear...um, I think I get that one, sin comentarios mi amiga."

"Dom, you know I don't do your funny-speak very well. Heck, I only manage your American as well as I do because it's so close to my own dialect of Arismal." She pauses, surprised by a thought. "You think the languages are related? I've never given it thought before, but how could that be possible?" Her mind back on track, Jez switches back to the familiar. "Oh no, I'm quite familiar with the capabilities of mind-benders. Among my people, yours are the most rare and feared; simultaneously reviled and respected, loathed and given positions of authority. I haven't yet sensed a genocidal streak in you, so I'll continue to let you live."

Jez almost blushes...almost. Unaccustomed to compliments (especially ones of such a social nature), she does only what she's seen other women do in such a situation. She beams him a smile, careful not to show teeth as she's chewing.

Domingo wrote:After a minute enjoying the appetizer, Domingo then turns to the machine, Cabal. "What is it like to be what you are? Do you have any dreams or goals, something that you feel, um strongly about."

Jez nods in understanding. A computerized machine wanting to know more? Predictable. A computerized machine not knowing the origins of its manufacture or its primary directives? Unbelievable. Gotta keep an eye on the can opener. It could be a drone programmed to assassinate, or spy, or gods know what else could be plugged into its subroutines. Jack shakes his head and says ”I am not all that curious about my genome. Probably would not do me any good anyway. Either I was related to the man who owned me when I was a kid, or I wasn't. He is dead, which is good enough for me.”
After taking a drink of his tea, Jack looks to Cabal and says ”As for your origins, if you liked, I could try to do a reading on you. Sometimes I can tell where things have come from, though I tend to focus more on construction and schematics.”

Jack gets a quizzical look on his face. Butt-hurt? What the heck is that? This seat is not the most comfortable, but it is not that bad. Must be some slang reference. When Jezebel chucks him on the arm, Jack flinches as though expecting to be hit much harder. He rubs his arm as though it should be bruised, but says nothing.

Domingo gives himself a second to mull over the choices, the soup doesn't sound bad, but I didn't come here to eat like a rabbit in the garden, I've seen a few Fury beetles... never thought of eating one before, but it sounds pretty good. Domingo smiles at the waiter, " I think the steak would be fine, senor. For potato, um... let's make it butter, cream, chives, and paprika. The salad with a balsamic vinaigrette."

Turning back to the conversation.

Jez wrote:"Dom, you know I don't do your funny-speak very well. Heck, I only manage your American as well as I do because it's so close to my own dialect of Arismal." She pauses, surprised by a thought. "You think the languages are related? I've never given it thought before, but how could that be possible?" Among my people, yours are the most rare and feared; simultaneously reviled and respected, loathed and given positions of authority. I haven't yet sensed a genocidal streak in you, so I'll continue to let you live."

Domingo shrugs, " To be honest, I'm not really sure about why they are so much alike. I don't really know anything about the Arismal people. But, it would be something interesting to look into... maybe one day when you have grown more comfortable with someone getting in your head, I might explore your past." He then laughs a bit at the comment about letting him live, " Though my kind are also rare and feared, I was raised better than most and don't really have any interest in being a genocidal killer. Not that it matters to some in this world." Domingo drifts off into thought for a bit, like those soldiers in Odessa, always rounding up those different than themselves, not waiting or caring to find out why they might be different. No they just kill, kill, kill... those are the genocidal killers. He shakes his head free from those thoughts. Turning back to Jez, " No, I may have powerful abilities, but I choose not to abuse them. The world has too many of those already."

Jenny wrote:"Reckon it's right nice o ya ta say senor Domingo, but Ah know ma hair is ah frightful mess. Ah reckon the lady did pick out some threads fer me." Jenny smiles at Domingo.Remember, girl. You have to watch them latino smooth talkers. Don't end up like cousin Connie with the army of tots and a stained wardrobe of home attire.

Domingo just smiles at Jenny as she talks, she is not a bad looking girl, but it is so hard to understand her when she talks... really a shame, she is such a talented girl. Maybe over time she will lose some of her accent, ja ja ja... not that we will live that long in this place, such a life we live. He answers back with a bit of a hand gesture, " Well, she did a good job, I'm glad you came to dine with us, amiga."

Jack wrote:Jack picks up the drink and sniffs it. Smelling the alcohol, he shivers and sets the drink down. He slides it back towards the center of the table without tasting it. Domingo drinks a bit more of his wine and shakes his head, " Jack, oh Jack, you are such a logical person. What our dear Jez here is really asking is for you to cut lose, take a little break from work, and she will protect you while we have fun around town. Ja, ja, ja... of course that is with her own special sugar talk to convince you. If you truly do not wish to join, then I will not force you. But, we would enjoy your company." Domingo puts on a good show and keeps up with his jovial smile, but inside he is a bit disappointed that Jack would rather work and not join the others.

Maybe a bit more conversation will help with things, " Well Jack, amigo... you have heard a lot about ourselves and you are still so new to us. Maybe you can share a bit, where did you grow up? When did you learn what you do? What do you aspire to, is there something we can help you with?" Domingo drinks a bit more wine, " Sorry to ask so many questions, but I would like us to know each other better. In the past we have not spent enough time learning about each other, then I regret at times not really knowing those who we have lost... It is possible the wine is starting to make Domingo a bit emotional, because he seems to have developed a wetness in his eyes. Not to the point of tears, but clearly thinking a bit deeply about those that are no longer here.

Once the food arrives, Domingo will become somewhat quiet. He will answer if spoken to, but does not ask any questions while he eats.

When it comes time for the check, Domingo will provide his secure card to cover the expenses.

Cabals seems to grow noticeably anxious as the conversation continues on - fascinating though it may be to familiarize himself with these organics. The fact remains, Cabal has no interest in fine dining. Assuredly this change isn't noticeable by reading his facial expressions, of which he has none, but by the growing activity of his hands.

Caring little for the mess he made earlier, Cabal continues socializing when answered or questioned - making sure to acknowledge Jezebel's comments regarding his mechanical nature.

Jezebel wrote:"So you're a machine. Okay. Well, at least you're not a disgusting abomination."

Genuinely entertained with this response, Cabal begins to chortle in his horrendously macabre fashion. "Well, I believe you and I are in fond agreement! Terribly filthy meat is... I couldn't imagine marring my consummate beauty." Cabal does well to express mention of himself with almost theatric gestures, more than proud of his mechanized quintessence.

Jezebel wrote:"What do you want to know that you have not already seen, cataloged, and stored for later analysis, Cabal?

Almost digesting the statement, Cabal ponders the question; surprised equally by the naivety of the question, and his inability to answer it. "There are always anomalies, obscurities and lapses in stored knowledge - you for instance, are not human. The others posses metaphysical capabilities, all of which are unknowns in my vast libraries. I have no existing programming of how to approach nor analyze such factors. For information to be relevant, it must be maintained, augmented and regularly preened. Such is the duty of any scholar. The factors in question proved nearly fatal to me, and I lack the desire to repeat my lapse in judgement. Besides, for the three months of activity I'm capable of remembering, the world is almost entirely paradoxical when referencing my stores."

Taking another pause, Cabal thinks back to his earliest memories from Stormspire - the city Thoben bought him off a group of mages, as little more than a crippled husk. "You see, I was brought back from the brink of annihilation by this so called magic. I recall only fragments of the conflict, and nothing before. I believe it was a combination of contact with this arcanery, and my significant damage, that left artifacts in my memory - I see little else that could have done so given my innate fail-safes. Traveling has only bolstered my hypothesis, when confronted with Earth's ailing technologies, no mundane explanation suffices. This has left me fascinated with such anomalies and I wish to learn more about them through my travels. I hope that satiates your curiosity, Jezebel."

Jenny wrote:"Misser Cabal, reckon ya might be able take recover yer memories if'n ya could get someone ta fix up them busted up parts inside o ya. Not that Ah e'er heard o ah place that ken do any o that work. Ya be light-years beyond what NG or tha Bandito ken do."

When Jenny interjects, Cabal abruptly stops his fidgeting. Forgetting his civility when faced with conjectures of repair, his tone is almost rude. "As I was mentioning to Jezebel and Jack," Cabal gestures towards each aforementioned party by a jerking of the wrist. "There is only so much that can be recovered - even with repair, if that's at all possible. According to my assessments, nothing short of visiting my place of birth could restore full functionality. To reiterate, anything pertaining to wherever that is, simply doesn't exist - I doubt entirely it ever did. Being a metaphoric beacon of sophistication, midst this desolation of yokel tinkering, does have its downsides..."

Somewhere along the lines he conjoins his hands in a manner reminiscent of prayer. Contemplating his own speculations, Cabal offers some brief insight into his mind when Jack chimes in.

Jack wrote:”As for your origins, if you liked, I could try to do a reading on you. Sometimes I can tell where things have come from, though I tend to focus more on construction and schematics.”

Flabbergasted would be an appropriate adjective to describe the thoughts tinkering around inside Cabal, "Well... that could work. But what we would find, if anything, is a mystery to me." Shrugging his shoulders, Cabal continues. "Going off on a hunch, as you call it, the only logical conclusion to derive from such factors, is that I wasn't meant to return. My skills are better suited to predatory instinct than unrelenting directive - in short, I really don't have a purpose other than survival. No different than any other organic life form, I presume."

Sitting around silently for a moment, Cabal broods over the information he just relinquished - not entirely sure how to feel about it.

After mulling around a bit too much in his own mind, Cabal offers a suggestion to the table. "On the topic of hunting though, I believe it's high time we, how do you say - bust this joint?"

Jack wrote:When the waiter appears, Jack says ”I would like whatever the chef considers his or her specialty in a main course and desert. Thanks.”

The clerk nods at Jack and says, “The chef is especially proud of his Fury Beetle steak – it’s a rare delicacy that can’t be beat!” The waiter scribbles down Jack’s order and turns to the next EI group member.

Jez wrote:"I've heard this is the place for exotic cuisine. Tell the chef to surprise my taste buds."

The waiter raises an eyebrow at Jez and simply nods and says, ”I’m sure he’ll do his best, miss.” After a few beats, the waiter writes down something on the pad, but doesn’t let anyone see it.

Jenny wrote:Jenny isn't too keen on fancy eating. When the time comes, the Techno-Wizard orders "Ah reckon Ah'd like ah London Broil. Burnt, not bloody. With some mashed taters, and some sorta greens. 'Sperigus 'r Collards."

The waiter smiles at Jenny, looking genuinely pleased that someone actually gave him an actual order instead of just saying, “Surprise me.” Writing down Jenny’s order, the waiter says, “Excellent choice, miss.”

Domingo wrote: Domingo gives himself a second to mull over the choices, the soup doesn't sound bad, but I didn't come here to eat like a rabbit in the garden, I've seen a few Fury beetles... never thought of eating one before, but it sounds pretty good. Domingo smiles at the waiter, "I think the steak would be fine, senor. For potato, um... let's make it butter, cream, chives, and paprika. The salad with balsamic vinaigrette."

The waiter’s smile grows as another customer gives him an order rather than making him guess at what they want. Quickly writing down Domingo’s order, the waiter tells everyone at the table ”Your food will be out momentarily.”

As the conversation continues at the table, some of the members of EI start to get to know each other better and start to get comfortable with each other. Cabal seems to grow more anxious as the conversation continues given that he has no interest in fine dining, yet had joined his colleagues in order to be polite.
The food arrives and Jez discovers that she has received the Fury Beetle steak along with a salad along with a colourful dressing that is quite flavourful when she eats the salad. Her baked potato is loaded with sour cream and chives and the steak is done perfectly. The rest of the table finds that their orders are perfection itself – the food practically melts in their mouths as they eat it.

Jez tries her best not to wolf down her food. This is good food, savor it, girl. If the conversations are trivial, she'll do the kindest thing she knows and simply say nothing while eating her food and smiling. The smiles are from this delicious steak, not your inane drivel and insipid banter. Otherwise, she'll continue to try to get these knuckleheads to cough up what they know about Grapevine or Stogie's Men's Club. To Jez, these two locations looked kind of interesting, even mysterious, and she is genuinely curious if anyone here has been to either.

Jack slowly enjoys his meal, at first in silence. It is about time I get a decent meal. I don't think I have had a proper meal since I left Psyscape. Wonder if I can talk them into hiring a chef to go with us full time. Those ration bars keep you alive... but they don't taste much better than the bugs I used to eat. After a few minutes, Jack remembers that Domingo just shot a slew of questions at him.

Domingo wrote:"Well Jack, amigo... you have heard a lot about ourselves and you are still so new to us. Maybe you can share a bit, where did you grow up? When did you learn what you do? What do you aspire to, is there something we can help you with?"

Jack gets a look on his face between total disgust and murderous rage for a few moments. It takes him a few more to regain his composure. He responds in a flat, emotionless voice. ”The first half of my life I lived in a dark hole with bugs... other than the short stints I was allowed out to be beaten. I did not learn about my abilities till after I...” I do not want to tell them I killed that bastard. "got away. I don't know if that town had a name. After I did find out about my abilities, I was taken to Psyscape and apprenticed to a mechanic. He was alright, but did not like my tinkering. To him it was repair something and move on... I want to build new things. One day I want to turn that walking monstrosity of mine into a walking design and fabrication shop. Then I can go around to all the little towns that cannot make advanced stuff for themselves... I know they usually don't have the much in the way of money... but I like the bartering system they use. So the only thing you all can help me with is jobs that pay and time to work on my inventions... A chef to go with us would be great... For immediate ideas.. Anyone know where I could get some scrap robots? Something like those mechanical dogs and horses... and maybe something that has something like metal feather wings." What the hell is with all this talking...

Jenny pushes the greens around the plate most of the meal, avoiding them much akin to a child. But she cleans her plate, much to the dismay of the Techno-Wizard's digestive tract.

Jenny attempts to explain why English is so common, seeing how researching them is one of her hobbies. "Reckon 'Merican is right common in a whole buncha dimensions. One o my teachers was an alien from another one, and one o tha trade tongues used by his government- one that had ah presence in hundreds o solar systems- was essentially 'Merican English. There, the humans have a legend o ah place called Earth. It's like ah place nobody believes exists there. Reckon Ah heard o a buncha Earths ah lot like ours where tha rifts never came."

Domingo notices the discomfort in the subject on Jack's face, he waits and lets Jack finish his story before speaking again. " I am sorry to hear you had such a time in your early years amigo. This is a world of such horrible things for sure, we can only hope to make ourselves stronger and maybe keep them from happening again." Domingo shakes his head a bit to help free his mind of the early ordeals, " As for your future plans, you are certainly with a good group for building and inventing. I'm sure Jenny would find your ideas very interesting and would probably help you where needed." He turns to look at Jenny and adds, " Plus, if anyone would know where to find things that you need around here, it would be her."

So, let's get the check and move on to a more lively and less stuffy venue, shall we?" Jez pushes her chair back from the table and pats her belly softly. It takes Jack a moment to work through the thick accent. Once he does, he smiles and says ”Thank you for the information.” Looking down at his new clothes, he smiles and says ”Yes, work clothes would be best for digging through scrap heaps. As for timing to go dig... well I doubt they would be open at this hour anyway... maybe tomorrow.”

Robot girlfriend? And out of silverware? How dumb is this woman? She has got to be the first woman I have met that looks that good, but with an attitude that ruins it all. Granted... she is not human... but still... I have seen feral dogs with better personalities... Jack remains silent and does his level best to ignore Jezebels presence.

Noticing that the group is finishing up with their meals, the waiter swoops in gracefully and, after ascertaining that the patrons are finished, takes the empty plates away. Coffee or tea is brought out for whoever wants it along with after dinner mints.

Remembering that Jack had asked for the chef’s speciality in dessert, the waiter wheels up a cart and reveals a scrumptious looking cherry dessert. After placing a bowl of vanilla ice cream in front of Jack and anyone else who wanted dessert, the waiter then pours a generous amount of rum onto the cherries. Lighting a match, the waiter lightly touches the match to the underside of the pan and a blue flame quickly covers the cherries. You can all smell the cherries as they heat up along with the flavour of lemon zest and sugar. After a few moments, once the fire has gone out, the waiter scoops out some of the cherry mixture onto Jack’s ice cream dish along with the dish of anyone else who wants to try some.

The waiter also places the bill on the table in a leather booklet well in reach of anyone on the table who wanted to pay for the meals. ”Please enjoy your dessert and take your time.” The waiter assures everyone. ”If there is anything else you require, do not hesitate to ask. The waiter then disappears to allow the patrons at the table to continue their conversation.

Jack finishes off his desert like a man who has better things to do. I swear, this is good, but these people just ruin my appetite. Now they want to go to some club or other... Bah! Jack waits for the others to finish.

Once Domingo pays for the meal and the limo shows back up. Jack says ”Thanks for the meal Domingo. However; I will not be accompanying you all to this club. I am going back to HQ. I have better things to do than go to a place that holds absolutely no interest for me.” Jack looks over at Cabal and says, ”If you would like to spend some time exploring our comparative backgrounds... We could do that while the others are engaging in whatever debauchery they have planned. It's up to you.”

While the others are climbing into the limo, Jack says ”Catch you all later.” He then turns and walks off.

The night out on the town crashes and burns after the fantastic meal. Thanks to the frakkin' killjoys in this outfit. This has all put her in a sour mood, and she begs off further rides with the group, preferring a walk through the fresh, night air to help clear her head. If I'm lucky, some stupid gang-bangers will start some shit, and I'll be able to get some frustration out. She walks back to the E.I. Compound.

Cabal dozes off as sincerely a robot is capable of - the thought of his origins wasn't something he necessarily dwelled on before, or cared to presently. Still, it was a blissful reprise from the absolutely meaningless chatter around him.

Coming to when the vast complement of his associates have departed, he can't help but grow agitated he wasn't the first to leave...
